Which is the better Hard Drive, Same Price?

I will the first to vote for WD. Used them for years, and have never had one single drive go out on me. :D

Six months ago, I would have said Hitachi. However, WD has made some major improvements to their products. They are significantly quieter, use much less power, and have improved reliability substantially since the days of Caviars past. Really, I feel confident in either drive and they are about equal.

However, WD does have one tremendous advantage when contrasted with Hitachi. As is pointed out in the Buyer's Guide at the top of this board, WD offers advance warranty replacement, and Hitachi does not. This is probably the only drive that will be in your personal rig. Should your drive fail, WD will have you back in action in two days. It will take two weeks  for Hitachi to do the same. Because of this, I'll recommend the WD.

If I remember correctly WD just announced that consumer hd now have a 3yr warranty if purchased after June this year.(correct me if I am wrong)
