Where to start?

In reading this section of the MSB, it has got me thinking about taking my old 2400+ AMD rig with an mx440 video card in the machine and building something to record my dvd's on, record television shows and play back on my 65" hi def TV. I currently use dish network for tv service but it is not the hi def reciever.

Where do I start learning about what I need to accomplish this?
 
Look in the sticky at the top of the forum. You'll find links to most everything you need to know about htpcs.
 
How did I miss that, duh. Thanks. Maybe I should rethink this whole htpc plan.
