Where to get liquid nitrogen?

Any ideas where I can get a small batch of liquid nitrogen?

Sure.

Liquid nitrogen can be purchased from welding supply shops.

It's reasonably cheep too.

However , the govt certified dewar to carry it in is about 500$.(least around here )

See if you have an AirGas retailer in your area. They sell all kinds of cool stuff including NOS, LN2, dry ice, O2, etc. I use to work across from an LED manufacturer and they would bring it in by the tanker truck (just like Terminator 2 ) but AirGas sells in small lab/school experiment sizes. They can also rent you the dewar.
