Damn impressive! The Tron Arcade machine is the door to the arcade - the custom door weighs 2 TONS! Tron was one of my favorite arcade games (devoured them tokens) and movies way back.

Total cost $450,000.

While I will agree that the last user is a solid loser, I would still expect them to see the issue in the pictures they took and correct it.

Otherwise, nice setup. Doesn't look $450k worthy, but we all have dreams. Unfortunately, nightmares are also dreams.
 
I wouldn't wanna sit in any of those seats... too far away in respect to the screen size... but the arcade area looks fun
 
i dont want to be a hater as my home entertainment room consists of sitting on my broken couch with a laptop and $9 headphones... but exactly where did the $450,000 go? also the carpet and visuals are so damn ugly. also it might be the camera, but the distance to the screen looks way too far, they might as well be sitting with me on my broken couch for movie time.

anyone is invited btw, we are gonna check out taxi driver tonight because comparisons are all ive read since joker came out. i have generic microwave popcorn and mtn dew. all you can drink.
 
Judging by the coat I would think most would be in the vintage arcade machines. Those things are pricey.

It'd be another step up if that Tron game slid out and there was another room of stuff behind it. Either it's awesome! Thanks for the post.
 
$450K goes fast in these sorts of projects. That theater probably didn't have tiered seating before they began.
The door weighs 2 tons and was "difficult" which definitely equals expensive! I wouldn't be surprised if the door cost $100k.
6 months of planning, that alone cost at least $50k.
These insanely custom projects, which are managed by high end professionals (Mr Byrne) cost serious bucks because the owner wants it all taken care of. I bet at least $100k went into the his pocket, but I am not saying he didn't earn it, because dealing with high end clients isn't easy.
 
Got a nice leather recliner for myself and a few chairs and comfy couch for friends. Just upgraded my projector to a new BenQ. Also have my self built MAME dual screen cabinet on one side of the projector and my aquarium on the other.
Living dream on a budget!
 
Yeah, we're gonna sell one of our Berkshire Hathaway stocks and put in a swimming pool !!!
 
Walmart has those mini Arcade machines but the problem is it's a LCD screen on it they just got some Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles ones for 299.00 but only have the two original TMNT roms included.\If I owned my own place I would do a Theater setup like that but it would just be a projector and I would have to be retired to enjoy it.

I know some folks with massive movie libraries and probably 200k theaters. Overall house is definitely over 1 mil. I'm like dude, you can afford to just buy movies.

Was going to say, that is an awfully small screen for that setup. I would not enjoy watching movies on that at all.

My father used to install theaters like this regularly and one thing I found was that the owners practically never use them. I'm not sure if they were bought entirely for show or owners just realised that sitting in a dungeon to get optimal viewing kind of sucks once the novelty wears off.
 
A home theater is on my wish list and expect it would only get used 10 times a year. I think it comes down to what value you put on the experience. First time I watched a movie with 700 watt subwoofer was amazing. I still get tingles when my guts rattle.

I tingle when my guts rattle as well.. but for way different reasons, I'm sure.
 
Oddly, didn't see a single ad on the AVS site. Blocked scripts on the other hand.... Hope the guy gets some good use out of it all. So many of these type setups seem built more to say you have them rather then to really use them. Will be a shame if those games slowly die of lonely boredom.

Once I get a more storm resistant house built on my place, I plan on turning the existing single wide trailer into a combo TTRPG/Entertainment Theater space. The space available after moving a wall looks to be about the same size as the theater part of this guy's setup. Will be a MUCH more modest setup unless my weird D&D dice mange to roll up the magic 6 numbers on a powerball drawing. Current plans are to keep the existing kitchen and bathroom setups. Won't have to move party crap to make breakfast the day after.
 
Don't know why the hate for the man's carpet choice. It looks fine to me. No doubt if I had the kind of money to blow I would easily drop $500k on a theater setup but no I will get by with my peasant 5.2.2 setup.

true in my case too, the 12-seater I worked on (install/programming) barely gets touched after the first year, owner just wants to crash on their living room couch and watch news and netflix on that plasma...

when I get service call walking down to the theater is like a ghost town, still smelling/looking like new but it's 10+ years old... reasons could be projector usage fears (damn expensive to get serviced/replaced), electrical bills, slow to start-up, too isolated from other important things (owners are damn busy and wanna see when folks approach the house), and there isn't netflix down there, just cable and bluray, not quite the list of friends they used to have to host parties... whatever the reason, it's a shame and just another example of fun-to-build, high quality stuff, but ultimately convenience wins out.

It's definitely nearing that ugly casino-style carpet vibe, biggest gripe working in design is having to walk into a beautiful space you helped work on only to have the carpet be the thing that draws your attention with it's high noise and unrelated blasting color scheme... at least in a theater the lights will be low so it's not as big a deal
