What's this icon mean?

What does this system tray icon in Windows 7 mean? I tried searching on it and don't get much but other people asking what it means.

I usually get the 5 bars without any other details. Not sure if this is suppose to be an asterisk or a sun.

I am playing with a second external wifi adapter on this machine and installed drivers for it. I can pull them out, but wondering what this means so I can avoid the problem in the future.

Which is odd because I posted this through wifi. I can't pull up the other adapter because its not plugged in. I do have virtual adapter from virtual machine software I was checking out, though.

Further odd is that I can disable my primary adapter and allow the second adapter to connect to the internet and it clears. Connecting to the router isn't sufficient. If I disable the second adapter and allow the primary adapter to connect to the internet, the icon doesn't clear.

Anyway, FWIW, I uninstalled the drivers & software for the 2nd adapter and that's cleared the icon.
