I'm looking to buy a game for myself and my kids, I'm looking for something to let us use the forcefeedback joystick and do some flying.

Preferably a game that lets us practice in solo mode and then play online against other pilots - however, I don't care what war it is, I don't care what type of aircraft we fly - what I do want is top-notch good graphics, easy to use and learn flight controls (we don't need to have a real pilots license to play do we?) good replayability and something that chooses fun over realism.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Crimson Skies! Not realistic at all, but REALLY fun! :D

//edit: Sorry. You said top notch graphics. Hm... Crimson Skies is an old game... but still my favorite arcadish flying game...

I fly Lock On: Modern air combat. It may be more than you are looking for, but I think you can scale down the realism.

It's a fun sim. You can fly online with others via a program called Hyperlobby.

Crimson Skies is only about a year old and supposed to be a great game. However its a console game so unless you own one your going to have problems with that. If you do own an Xbox with Live then your in business since it describes your situation perfectly.

There are two Crimson Skies. Crimson Skies for the PC, and a sequel, Crimon Skies: High Road to Revenge on the Xbox (Which is exclusive). They're not the same game, but they're the same universe. The Xbox version is more modern and has far better graphics, though.

Bollocks to the crimson skies stuff ;) get yourself IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and the Ace`s expansion pack, it's very configurable and is heaps of fun online via Hyperlobby. You can then choose from arcade type flying up to pretty damn realistic settings.
Dano.

More than 170 aircraft currently. So to be 200+ flyables with the Pacific Fighters expansion pack. Carrier landings should be awesome. Check out some of the pf development screenies at the IL2 site.

There is a next generation product "Battle of Britain" under developement by IL2's programmer, Oleg Maddox. BoB is supposed to be graphicaly out of this world. I cant wait.

One more thing, IL2 has built in support for TrackIR.

TIR is a head tracking device which allows you to effortless scan or track anywhere on you cockpit or canopy by simple head movements. No more thumbing your stick's hat switch to look around. TIR simply peg's the sim immersion factor for me. Its awesome.

You can effortless track a target while performing aerobatic manuevers. It really makes you feel as if you are in the sim. Best sim $$ I've ever spent bar none. Transformed my situational awareness. I wont fly without mine.

works in flight sims, racing sims, etc.

Very cool in racing sims.

You can prob pick up a used TIR or TIR2 for real cheap. I would suggest the 2 or later.

I could never say enough good about tir.

p.s.

if you have a webcam their are two software head trackers which you could try.

Cam-2-pan and Freelook. Ive tried neither, but some love them.
