What's the best way to fix a Cat5e?

I thought I was being VERY careful with my drill today, even so I slipped and accidentally mangled 3 Cat5e cables that were in a bundle above the 2x4 I was drilling through. the cables actually got wrapped around the drill bit and the insulation got stripped off and wires were broken. Many expletives went echoing off of the walls in that room!

I can sometimes do incredibly stupid things.

It is impossible for me to run new cables, there is no way to gain access to the cable path without hacking big holes in the sheetrock walls of a finished house. So what is the best way to fix this big mistake?

My solution was to cut the cables, add a RJ45 to one side and a keystone jack to the other and simply connect them. I was wondering if this is an optimal solution or is there a better solution out there?

Thanks!

Yeah, you can do exactly what you described. It'll be fine.

Or alternatively, cut jacks on both ends and use a short patch cable.
