HardOCP has been my home page for many years now, as it has always offered typically unbiased reviews compared to other sites which shall remain nameless. However, of late we seem to have just links to other sites reviews. Where are the reviews we know and love from the guys in charge?

X1800XT preview... I mean come on how long has this card been available now, where is the real review with later drivers, image quality results etc?

Same thing goes for crossfire, again it's widely available now or is the dislike for the ATI chipset a defining factor in why there is no review?

You guys earn't my respect many years ago, yet nowadays it seems either you're too busy or just won't review certain kit for whatever reason.

I would really like to know whats happened, although I know this probably won't get a response.

Come on guys, sort it out!!

you mean "earned" :). yea they've been lacking a little on the reviews...but so has anand (reviews aren't as thorough) and toms. who knows....they probably have real jobs

Do a little reading in this forum and you'll see that they're working on the Xfire review. It's a shame you don't give them the benefit of the doubt- especially with X1800 master cards only being available for the past few HOLIDAY weeks. These guys all have families, you know!
As far as them putting alot of effort into an X1800 gen crossfire review, I can see where they wouldn't want to spend too much time on it, with X1900 3 weeks away. Of course, all this is just MHO.

shows how much I am out of it....I didn't know Crossfire was out yet.

true...it is the holiday and im sure the hard writers/editors deserve a break...and they may be reviewing cross-fire with the new ati cards coming out...u never know...everyone deserves some slack now and then...

Hey they did have the time for an H20 Xbox 360 mod, what did YOU do this past week/weekend besides get drunk :D

Props to the [H] from Grimmda... not to mention I'm digging all the PC Vendor reviews (Dell XPS so on and so forth)...

God I need to stay away from this thread as it could get me in trouble again......

Maybe my post came across in the wrong context but when you're used to [H] being on the ball for so long, its a shame to see it slip.

Thanks to johnnq (spelling, oops) for at least agreeing somewhat to what I was trying to say instead of another kiss ass "they have jobs and families" reply. I'm sure their families and jobs didn't just spring out of the blue 3 months ago......

I best leave it here as it's pointless talking to the monkeys, when you really want an answer from the organ grinder.

If you want an answer from them, why don't you send them an email or PM. Or do you not have the capacity to determine how to do that? You post in an open forum and you're going to get responses from any who have an opinion. If you don't like my opinion, that's fine. But call me an ass kissing monkey again you blue blooded socialist pillow biter, and I'll show you an organ you can grind.

I'm going to venture out on a limb and answer this thread because I know that Kyle is very busy right now.

There are many, many behind the scenes things going on right now (and by that I mean this very minute!) with our infrastructure and our new site roll-out, much of which we have talked about in the past few months. Not to mention we're just coming out of the holidays.

Please be patient with us as we make some major adjustments, we appreciate your readership and don't want to let you down in any way.

I can tell you that name calling will most result in this forum's moderators shutting this thread down.

Good answer.

I think I remember reading about the new site launches..... ETA?

If you guys need help, feel free to ship me any hardware for reviews and or just to free up some space there. :p

Now that would be interesting to say the least ;)

I think the goal is the beginning of the year. So, soon. But feel free to post more information, I'm looking forward to it.

I think they just try not to review ATI hardware.

But they have no problem reviewing unavailable Nvidia hardware (512 GTX)

I love the [H]ard I just think the only problem (not complaing I come here of my own will) is that when ATi has a problem they react in the right way by stomping it out while when Nvidia has a problem they always seem to cut them slack. Same with The Inq (your reporting is 10x better just a small similarity) cutting slack with ATi.
The biggest story IMO is that the 7800GTX512 is total vapor ware and it sold at 800 dollars but most still think its a Nvidia Hard Launch. While with ATi if their card is not their the first day (which it should be) but 100% their the next week its seen as a phantom launch.

The thing is Nvidia has been on the ball of late. Yes, the 7800GTX512 is very hard to come by and Nvidia needs to answer for that, but to say that Kyle is biased one way or the other, as well as anyone else on the staff is just wrong.

Does seem that way, but I am hopefull for a return to the old hardocp style of comparing IQ and such over just fps. But ever since those editorial Ati attacks - things have felt somewhat biased.

Doesn't Brent Justice do the video card reviews...

Yes,from what I see Kyle has only done two video card reviews in along time.

But I think He said Kyle because he was the one bashing ATI awhile ago.

But I say bash them all (Big Companies that is)
It might lower prices

And I'm sure we'll see ATI reviews coming shortly. If we don't that's Bulls__t !

I'll admit it now, I'm biased towards ATi, I had an nVidia card and it had terrible Shimmering and Moire, so now I have a great looking ATi card.

I'm not going to get into wild speculation, etc. I think holiday time off is all well and good and definitely important, but I will say this.

I remember when [H] did quite a few reviews. Then Kyle vs. Infinium Labs thing happened. I understand why everything trickeled down. I also remeber that the whole thing was solved (thankfully in Kyle's favor) and it was supposed to allow [H] to return to its previous state. It doesn't seem to me, though, that it has. Either there is still sorting out going on, or things have just dropped off. I dunno what it is, but I wish it was back to the good ole [H].

Thanks Chris for your post and don't think [H] has let me down personally, my only beef if you can call it that was reviews do seem a little light on the ATI side. It's understandable that Kyle doesn't want to review hardware thats not widely available, and he is totally justified in doing that. But as 'the' top hardware site (imo) I was just suprised with the absence of high end ATI articles, mainly crossfire considering it's been available in the UK for some time and I imagine for yourselves alot longer than I've been able to get my grubby paws on it.

That said, you've answered my original question and here's hoping as this year goes on and the ongoing projects finish without issue we can expect top class reviews (X1900 maybe?) around the same time as other sites. Rather than wondering why new hardware hasn't been reviewed, and whether the reason for this is by personal choice.

It seems to me that a lot of sites have toned down the reviews. Maybe hardware isn't so interesting now, nearly every brand of motherboard/vid card with the same chipset benches the same, and new products are becoming fewer and farther between, unlike the race to 1ghz days. Couple that with a bunch of wannabe hardware sites springing up reviewing any crap a manufacturer sends them, and it makes the whole hardware scene just not as interesting imo.

At least [H] is crazy enough to watercool a 360 to give us some hardware pr0n to look at :)

Here - http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=ODc1 published on Nov. 4th using Cat 5.11 and comparing IQ.

It's coming, and in it of course using the latest drivers, Cat 5.12.

And I think you are just flat out wrong.

5.13 would be the latest drivers, i hope you mistyped ;)

6.1 should be released soon.

Sc4freak said:
Shouldn't you be using Cat 5.13, since they are the latest and seem to give a performance boost in some games (dual core optimisations?)?

When I performed the tests 5.12 was the latest. Cat 5.13 simply adds the AVIVO improvements. Our current video card test system is using a single core FX-55.

5.13 is the first drivers that officially supports crossfire.

a performance problem in fear with crossfire was sorted in them

The drivers we used came directly from ATI for use with X1800 XT CrossFire and are based on Catalyst 5.12.

You know, there hasn't been a lot of exciting hardware coming out as of late. Most of the time it's just a minor tweak to an old product, like the 7800GTX, or a 4ms LCD. There really hasn't been anything to review lately, the only things coming up are the AMD M2 socket and R580 video cards. Don't blame [H]ardOCP for this!

I liked the reviews here for a long long time. Now days, not so much. I don't even read them really. I check out the picts then skip right to the overclocking (if its even included) and then the conclusion. Their way of testing has lost its appeal to me.

So my point is, I come here to read all the forum drama and watch fanb0ys act like idiots!! lol :D
