What's closest to the fUNC 'Surface 1030' these days?

Hi, looking to buy a hard mouse mat that's closest to the original func 1030's. I absolutely loved them bitd, but due to them being rather expensive in the uk, (i used to buy the alienware branded ones online - under £15 with postage) i'm now looking for something similar but not so expensive. I recently tried a few soft mats ( razer goliathus speed & control editions) but i'm not intirely smitten on then. Nothing has ever felt as good as the old faithful 1030.

Any help / advice / comments would be most welcome, thanks ;)

May want to look at Ratpadz, but you'll have to contact them about international shipping. There's a long thread about it here.
I'm not sure what the Ratpadz XT mats are like, i did have a GS once. It was pretty good initially, but it wore down way too quick.

I've used the 1030 for almost 10 years now and recently won a Mionix Propus 380 at a LAN party and really like it. It has a very similar surface to the "rough" side of the 1030 and is a bit larger.

or, since you're in the uk

Sounds interesting. I do game alot tho, do they wear fast / slow?

Its a real pitty about the func situation. As far as i can remember, they used to do custom 1030 inserts with dual rough or smooth sides (rough for me every time). Not sure if there still doing them, but the postage costs from the USA make it a bit of a moot point.

I'm an original fUNC user, the moment they debuted I got one during my counter-strike 1.3 days. I really like the Steel Series mousepad.

SteelSeries 4HD Gaming Pad

I like it so much, I've owned 5 func pads. Maybe someday I'll get another one someday but I've been happy for a while now with the steelseries.

Amazon has a Func surface, F30.r
$5.99 each.

These fit in the frame of the same size if you have it but they also come with a rubber bottom. I usually use the rough side of the original Func 1030, at work and at home. Picked up two of these and they just replaced my originals. They stay in place and feel the same when using the mouse. Feel a little different to your finger tips but indistinguishable from the original when is use.

I just bought a Mionix Propus 380 last night, so i'm really looking forward to testing. :D

I've never used any steel series mats, are any of them close to the texture of the 1030's rough side?

...That seems like a very good deal, but im not sure they will ship to the uk (maybe they'd redirect me to Amazon UK - which sell them for £22)

does it have to be portable? if not spend a bit extra on a steelseries i-2, you'll never have to replace it. the chem polished finish is baby soft and easy to clean, feels air-hockey smooth with any mouse of mine that still has feet.

Fucking awesome, that's what they're like. WAY better than the GS (I've owned both). I don't even remember how long ago I bought my XT (3-4 years...?) and it's still pristine, surface-wise.

I used to use a fUNCpad 1030 as well...piece of shit compared to the XT, IMO.

No one has mentioned the Thunder by X-ray? This one is basically identical to the fuNCpad except a slightly different shape. I loved the fuNCpad back in my gaming days, but hated the rubber that would warp. The X-ray pad has a plastic base. The surfaces are identical.

last time I used one was a Ratpadz with the {H} logo Waaaaay back in the day. I loved it but the feet kept coming off :D I bought this one because im becoming a Corsair fanboy, so I can't compare to others mentioned. Its BIG and its STURDY. I'm still stuck on WoW so I didn't really need one for precision twitch games, but it fits the bill nicely...

I want one, it just doesn't seem to exist in the US? I can't seem to find anywhere to actually purchase it.

That's quite strange... why advertise a product that isn't in the market that it's being advertised for?

How big is that compared to the Ratpadz XT? Ratpadz is half the price...just sayin'.

Well i know it's been a while but thought i would update a bit.

I didnt like the Mionix Propus (sorry if your a fan) and just recently i purchased a Surface 1030 Mk2. I was so disappointed that i emailed func to tell them that the base does not fully support the insert, thus creating a "hill effect" when the mouse is moved over the middle of the pad. Serious design floor. If it ain't broke ...don't fix it. I don't think there's much chance of getting a "New Old Stock" original 1030 anywhere though.

Are the Func Archetype pads the same as the original 1030's? ...just a different size / shape?
