I like the GBT and think that eVGA is ugly as sin.

I wonder if the logo's on the fan blades affect the dynamics of the airflow on those fans? Might make a good [H] investigative review. :)

I honestly do not give a fuck. But I tell you what. You rent all the equipment needed to truly investigate that, and I will make it happen.

What happened to them? The universe corrected itself and they went the way of the dodo bird.

EVGA's coolers are always ugly. Their waterblocks look decent, but the air coolers are rarely anything to write home about.

Not always a bad thing, as long as it's done in moderation. However, hardware manufacturers are not known for moderation so it gets a bit crazy sometimes.

Ya I miss the good looking graphics on the box and card, just not the ugly ones.

The card prices keep going up, and the mutherfuckers can't even give us a manual. BASTARDS!

Best thread ever I couldn't even remember what these cards looked like when I owned them 15 years ago. You guys are bad ass.

Yeah. My Asus Strix 1080ti was a perfect example of it done right, I think: neutral color scheme, with the RGB being accents rather than eye-stab.

I actually felt bad about replacing that cooler with a waterblock. It looked good and preformed great. =)

IIRC, Palit is no longer available in the North American market but they are still around.

I hope the companies took the funds wasted on art for teens and instead used them for better components for the rest of the customers.

The crimes against good taste section of the card makers marketing departments decided that frag harder disco lights were the next big thing and are wasting their money on them instead of tasteless sticker art.

It never made much sense to me with the graphics on the cards as most of the time you couldn't even see them.

But didn't these coincide with the start of 'case modding' and putting a big window in the side of the case? Then you could see it--kinda.

funny, the only case I have with a window is subsequently my server case which exists somewhere I can't see. I never understood graphics on graphics cards, totally useless in my opinion.

None of you guys like old 70s and 80s vans with wizards, lightning bolts, and hot chicks painted on the sides?

    Busjes-tuning-01.jpg

I think we just switched from graphics to lights.

Could almost be converted in to a Witcher type theme. I'm surprised there aren't game-themed graphics cards.

It really sucks how all the cool van modders just disappeared and so did the vans. These are very unique vehicles to enjoy looking at.

Yea, I remember those cards. My ATI Radeon HD 4890 and Geforce 8800 GTS had graphics.

The 8800 GTS card actually even came with a bad ass T-Shirt too. Those were the days. Those cards cost 1/5th the price of the price of the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti I just bought, LOL. 09 04 11_0737.jpg

It's interesting to see how far we've come in a decade, not only in styling, but price and performance as well:
    https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/bfg-8800-gt-oc.b909
    https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-2080-ti.c3305

    8800gt vs 2080ti
    Price increase 5x
    Memory size increase of 21.5x
    Memory bus increase 1.375x
    Memory clock increase 1.94x
    Effective Memory clock increase 7.78x
    Memory bandwidth increase 10.69x
    Gpu clock increase 2.16x
    Pixel rate increase 13.6x
    Texture rate increase 12x
    Shading unit increase 38.85x
    Power TPD increase 2x
    FP32 performance increase 38.33x

Interesting that in the end while the price is 5x and the power is 2x, the performance is more like 12x. (y)

I don't know, never ever paid attention to the graphics on the card or box - bottom line was how it would perform/$. Now I did pay attention, appreciated, clapped, booed etc. for the Art on the screen! Thought the Pascal FE funky cooler design was a total waste, ugly raising the cost for nothing good. The Vega FE blue box is about as perfect from my view dealing with a video card. Now I like the EVGA cooler designs because it is almost purely functional and works well - do not like the EVGA lighted side or billboard. What I truly missed from yester year video cards are the demo's that use to go along with them and ready for you to run once you got your card. They were also excellent promotional tools since most did things never seen before and you got to experience the novelty of it.

you should be comparing the 9800 GX2 to the 2080ti as that was the top card at the time 10 years ago. $599 was the price.

Was there a King Kong game, or did it come with the movie? Just wondering why they would put that on a GPU.

I bought it second hand but I believe it came with the movie because they were touting how it supported HDCP

    https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/EN7900GTX2PHT512M/

EDIT: this is what it came with, not sure if game or movie.

    Software Included
Drivers & Utilities, Cyberlink Medi@Show, ASUSDVD, VirtualDrive, CyberLink PowerDirector 3, Xpand Rally, King Kong
