So recently I purchased a video card from [h]. It was pretty much DOA, first time it's ever happened to me. I did the whole troubleshooting thing, contacted the seller, etc. The seller was quick to say that it worked for them, never offered to take it back, but did say they would contact the person they were selling it for so I can get a receipt to RMA. I did get the reciept after a day or so and finally was able to RMA the video card (which totally sucks not getting a working card and having to rma it immediately).

Now the seller won't respond back after I've asked them to leave feedback for me (note I didn't say I would leave them feedback. I feel like this seller is afraid I'll leave some scathing feedback, but I've kinda felt let down because I went well above in beyond to make sure things went well. I just kinda wanna get a positive review out of it :) I got a broken item, did troubleshooting, and then didn'tt have it for over a month after buying it waiting for it to be RMA'ed. I never once threatened to do anything rash. I just wanted a working video card. It's kinda annoying cause that same seller even just put a new ad up today so I know they are avoiding my message.

So what would you guys do in the future? the only two times I've gotten a DOA item from [H], one of the sellers worked with me. This is the first time where the seller just kinda gave a "You deal with it" attitude. What do you think I should of done? Should I of just asked to return it from the get go? What would you guys have done in that situation?

Depending on the condition it arrived, their response time and actual response I would have requested a return. Was it obvious or could it have been defective and them not know? Was it disclosed that they were selling for a friend? Who are we talking about here?

If they are not even giving you a "hey I see your message" after say 24-48 hours then open a claim.
Do I really have a claim though? I always assumed buying is a risk the buyer takes. It's not like the seller didn't send me the video card. He just kinda didn't really help after it was sent and it I did all the troubleshooting steps to confirm it didn't work.

The packing and the product looked great, pretty much new. It's jsut when placed in 4 different computers the card would post maybe 1 out of 20 times, and even then it wouldn't recognize it was the video card it was suppose to be. I tried your basic troubleshooting steps of 4 different machines, and 5 different power supplies. I didn't want to rush into thinking it's a bad card, so I pretty diligent troubleshooting and the machiens would only work on other video cards. It was a pretty thorough test and make sure it works before I even messaged the seller.

I think in this case the seller either didn't know, or maybe they did. I don't want to think the guy was out to screw a fellow [H] member over. The seller has been a member of this forum since like 2006. Something they did ask for was Paypal Friend/Family pay, which I did....which does raise a flag. I don't believe that allows me ANY leeway in claiming a bad sale. I got the vibe though the seller asked for that to maximize their profits.

Concerning naming a name...the person is active but I really don't feel comfortable putting a name out. It's not like I was completely ripped off, it really could of been just a unlucky roll of the dice. It would of really sucked though if I wasn't able to RMA the card at all. I just think it's odd that he's refusing to acknowledge my multiple messages to nicely leave me feedback on Heat :)

Once you got in contact with the seller and explained the issue. He should have a gave you a few options.

1) Asked if you wanted to return the broken card.
* You pay to ship it back for a full refund.

2) Asked if you wanted to keep it and just do an RMA on it.
* If so then he either pays to ship it to the manufacturer.
* Or splits the shipping if you feel good with that.

If none of this is happening then you need to get a full refund. It doesn't matter if it is his friends, cousins, in-laws, etc or why he is selling it. He is still responsible for the item. As it is listed in his name so he is fully responsible for testing and providing working screenshots of the item in hand.

Just going from your posting history I am surprised, assuming you posted in the FS thread? He should stop by and explain what happened.
Yep, I bought several video cards recently. It was the 1070ti. The other video cards have been perfect and purring along.

Based on what you have said I think this type of seller is not good for [H] and others should be warned not to do business with them.

I don't know. I try to keep an open mind about it. It's not like the seller was completely awful. He did ship the exact product, it just wasn't working. I didn't exactly say "Take it back" to him, but I was a little disheartened that I felt like it was a "Deal with it yourself" type response from him. The only real annoyance I have is the complete radio silence from the seller while he is still posting daily on the FS forum. It just kinda seems like a slap in the face in a way since I've tried to make it work for both of us.

In this case I was more interested in what you guys would do in the situation. Since there's two sides to a story, I really wasn't aiming to make anyone look bad. Just getting your guys thoughts on how to act just in case anything like this ever happens again.

If you think you would not do business with this user again and would have liked to have known about his behaviour beforehand it is worth sharing your experience.
If you are a bit annoyed but would still consider buying from him again then don't bother.

That's a good point, it would be a good service for the rest of [H]. I've Pm'ed that seller this thread conversation and will give him the option to respond if he would like.

Guys i am the seller. Anyone that has dealt with me knows i am a good buyer/seller/trader. The buyer never asked for a refund, only for a receipt for warranty purposes which i provided. The transaction took place August 13, nearly 2.5 months ago. I had an asking price. Trent offered $275. I said that is fine if he didnt mind paying via F&F to avoid me eating the fees and he agreed.
Here is the pms

Hey there. If for some reason you can do $275 I can do it. Unfortunately it's all I can spare in the PayPal right now. I understand if that's to low. Best of luck with the sale.

If you don’t mind f and f payment I’ll do the $275. That helps me out and is just $20 less than asking price. I can get it shipped no later than tomorrow.

Hey man. I got the card and while it looks great. It's not booting up at all for me. I've tested it on three of my rigs and while it will power on. It shows that it syncs but refuses to display anything. I was wondering if you tested it before you got it from your military buddy. I can send a video of what's happening if you want. I'm going to try a few more troubleshooting things but any suggestions are welcome also.

Yeah I might need the reciept. Three different machines and now it's artifacting on another monitor. I don't mind rma'ing but just kinda lost at what's up. Never seen an issue like thia before.

I just tried it on a forth machine with another power supply and it's doing the exact same thing.

Well after letting it sit for 15 minutes and then rebooting it on the fourth machine. It actually booted into windows 10.

Something may have gotten jostled during shipping but I do think you sent a legit good card, so I don't mind rma'ing it. Just its acting like I've never seen. I had a few 1070s and 1080s before, maybe this is some weird 1070ti thing lol

After testing. Yeah there is something corrupt on the card. It sucks

One out of five times it will only boot one specific computer. When it does boot it will go to the desktop but it will instantly error out on any 3d app.

I've tested it and it doesn't work on a 5960x and a 5930k with a 1300 watt psu and 850 watt psu. On the 4770 with a 650 watt it doesnt boot also. On a 4790 dell it will boot once every five times but only after about five minutes. It randomly will also gray screen.

Aa soon as I put any other video card back in all the machines boot up fine.

So I don't mind rma but it does suck to have a none working card. I really do hope you find the reciept cause otherwise I'm sol.

I did not leave the guy hanging as it may seem the way he created the post. I did everything he asked.
It seems he is upset about the fact i havent left heat yet, which i will do. I usually do a leave heat when i get a chance to. I left about 10 positive heat for other members a few weeks ago.

And there is the complete pm conversation. The last pm i received from him was august 24th until last friday when he sent a pm requesting Heat. I didnt see it as it was buried in the pms about items i was selling.

While I think "Upset" is a strong word, I do think at least responding back to two pm's withing 48 hours to at least acknowledge it (even if you have a flood of pms cause of sales) would be considerate. I didn't want to spam your PM, and it really did feel like you were avoiding my pms.

So update. I believe the seller just doesn't want to leave Heat. I guess it's not worth the risk to mar you heat if you think someone is going to leave you a nuetral review (Even though I didn't plan on it, just wanted to at least be acknowledge that I worked with him in an extremely shitty situation). Oh well.

I'll just make sure to avoiding his sales for now but wish him the best.

Thanks for all your insight guys.

In my honest opinion, he should get Heatware feedback for an item that isn't his. He did list the item but it wasn't his personal stuff. This sucks for the buyer but it was known that it wasn't the sellers. It kinda sucks for both parties on this issue. But selling hardware for other people shouldn't be allowed to start with. But then you open the bigger issue. They aren't going to tell you that it wasn't there, most of the time. bufodr_t did tell you it wasn't his. I give him respect for that as he could have just said it is mine and went on. A lot of "Grey Area" things happen in here. Most of the rules have now changed (went away) as well.

No one knows what will happen in the future here. We just need to keep moving forward now. Not only did trentchau learn something here. A lot of other users have learned things that will help them in the future of buying, selling and trading here.

This is why i hate both shadow purchasing and selling.

Shadow purchasing as a buyer is shitty because those buyers tend to make offers for someone else and then when you accept their offer price... "give me a day i need to confirm with my friend" and then frequently back out since friend said no... wasting a ton of time.

Shadow selling, leads to essentially this thread. Seller dumping hardware from someone else that may or may not be tested properly and then the buyer gets dead hardware that needs to be returned back or RMA'd.

Sell your own shit people. No need to be a hero. Plebs can always be told to go to craigslist. Not only that but selling shit for someone else means taking negative heat if shit goes sour. Why take that headache.

This was what I was replying to. You finally told him that it wasn't your hardware you were selling. As for Heatware exchange, you shouldn't get anything. It isn't your hardware and the buyer will lose out but he will know what to ask for before a purchase now. The guy that owned the item should sign up and earn the right to sell his own stuff here. Lesson learned to the Buyer and seller here. Time to put that to use on the next selling and buying.

Read the original listing that i listed the item. It was my gpu. I bought it off a guy(friend) new in box. He is in the military and was getting shipped out. He bought it in january and only opened the item never installing it. I did test the item fully before shipping it. Sometimes items get jostled around in shipping andarrive doa. Of the hundreds of items i have sold on [H] over the years this is the FIRST i have ever had that arrived DOA. If you look at the above pms you can see that i apologized for that. NEVER did he ask to send it back for a refund, which i would have happily given him. To be honest i never knew the buyer had a problem with me or the transaction until i read this post.
It was almost 3 months since i sold him the card that he startedt this thread.

Bought this off a guy in the military. He bought it for a build but never that never happened and now is heading overseas.

look at the original listing. It clearly says i bought the card off him. I owned the card at the time of selling. I contacted his wife to get the receipt so it could get RMA'd

Okay. That makes a bit more sense now that the whole story is on the table. Heatware is deserved now as there was a lot of confusion at the beginning. I would have just left the GPU sealed in the box and let the buyer open it. It is what it is though.

THE END!

In all honestly I hope people see your responses to this post and it makes them more confident to purchase from you since you did respond. Thank you for the feedback post btw, I did just get it.

I think in this case the RMA experience, and having to ask twice for feedback left a bad taste in my mouth. But the original intent of this post wasn't to call you out, but just talk about the experience. So thanks again all for your insight.

Makes more sense with full details.

pitchforks lowered. this time. next time we coming for your man juices.
