What to edit vids with?

What can I use to edit mpegs and other videos types?

Free is nice, or a trial version.

Nothing fancy, just bacis cut here, paste there, kinda thing.

i've used a program called vdub a lot for avi counter-strike movies...

Windows Movie Maker I don't like. I have a mpeg and WMM says its not supported.

just for clarification, it's full name is virtualdub. there is some version somewhere with mpeg support. i don't believe it's in the 'real' version

well, I can't find anything that supports mpeg4.
What can I use to convert the 4 to a 1 or 2?

Then MSMM might work
