Hi I got a free PNY Verto FX 5950 Ultra 256mb and I'm wondering what I should do with it? Currently I have:
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128mb
512 MB RAM
Intel 3.0 GHZ with HT technology
450 watt PS

I'm just wondering how much of a good gaming experience the 5950 will get me and I'm planning on purchasing Doom 3 and HL2. I've only really been playing CS (for 4 years) and that doesn't require much but now with these new game releases they are requiring alot from the graphics card. I don't want a decent gaming experience I want a great one.

I don't know how much It'd be worth it to sell the 5950 for as much as possible and get a 6800Gt .. ? Or would it be of better benifeit for me to get a 6800u? I also have been considering selling my cpu and buying a better one (AMD 64 FX-53 with 1+Gig of ram) or maybe just giving it to my brother.

I'm just looking for some opinoins on what I should do/get. Thanks.

Off topic wat tournament did you get it for and what team are you on?

If you got some money extra try and sell both cards and go for a 6800GT or Ultra, you won't regret it :D

Sell it and get a GT.

Already sold my 5900 nu. took some of the sting out of the $400 on the GT.

Stick with the 3 Ghz P4 get a better cooler for it and overclock the hell out of it. Should be able to hit 3.4 to 3.6 Ghz fairly easily with it.

I only have a 450w power supply, will that be enough to power a 6800u. I thought I saw somewhere that it needed at least 480w but I may be mistaken.

You should be fine if its a high quality power supply, if its a no named one you might consider upgrading it, the GT has lower power requirements than the U does so it may be the better way to go.

Nvidia made the 'requirement' 480 Watts to take into account all the people who run crappy or generic PSUs. If you have a quality PSU (like Vantec, Enermax, Antec, PC P&C, Fortron/Sparkle) then you can get by with a lower rated PSU. Plus, like above poster said, the 6800GT requires less power than the Ultra edition, so you should be good to go.

480 is enough for GEFORCE 6800 ULTRA
