Is there a solution if a user changed the password on administrator, and then forgot it, and does NOT have another account on the PC with administrator access?

Just curious, someone asked me about this. Luckily I remembered what they had set the admin password to, so I could help them (this time) but curious for future application.

I vaugly recall somebody mentioning that the windows 2000 startup discs, will allow you to launch into recovery mode with admin privs and you can reset the password from there.

I haven't tried it, and the guy that mentioned it to me, no longer works here.

maybe that will jog someone elses memory at least....

there are boot disk utilities that you can download that will allow you to reset the password.

I think if you google this you'll find it, but I have some handy boot disks that run some linux app that basically boots off the floppy, asks you what you want to set the admin password to, does it and restarts. Very handy for situations like that, works in NT and 2k, I haven't tried it in XP yet but I would imagine it would work b/c it's based off of 2k
