What the heck?

I can't believe that I must use my HP laptop to find out why my Mac keeps dropping the WIFI connection, Yet as you can see my HP laptop has no issues at all. I have reset the router three time and checked the network setting on my router and the Mac, with no avail. I must be missing something simple!

It's funny because I thought this would be going the other way I would be using my Mac to fix my PC?

What the hell?

Did you install the WWAN update?

This seems to be an issue that pops up after installing that update.

If you installed the latest update from Apple, Airport Extreme 2007-002, then maybe that's the cause. I installed that and couldn't login to my wireless connection using WPA or WEP and even no security. But I can log to other's wireless connection. And it seems that this is happening to D-Link router user.

I think you guys are right, I have checked a few other message boards and it seems that it may be specific to D-Link routers! Well I am sure this will be addressed in the coming days (GOD I hope not weeks). I wounder if the problem could be on the D-link side as apposed to apple? It may seem strange to make that connection but I haven't always had the best luck with D-link products!

See if there is a firmware update available for your router too.

I had a d-link when I first got my macbook, it was notorious for being bad with macbooks for some reason. I just went out and bought a Linksys. It had been giving me issues for months and that just put me over the top. Haven't had an issue with anything since.

The latest firmware wont do any good. I just have to reinstall the old airport extreme update, 2007-001. And wait for a new update from Apple.

My wifes Toshiba g25 had this same issue with my dlink 4300 router. they advised us to download and install an update from intel. Granted it was an intell wireless card in her system. Most likely not the case in your apple. But i thought i'd post this to let ya know i know what you mean and how frustrating it can be.

I would check with the Apple customer service because more than likely if it is a widely known issue then theyw ill have some sort of "temporary" fix until they release an official fix.

So this only applies to D-Link wireless routers? No one has had any problems with the Linksys WRT54-G (I have a v6)

I have tried a firmware update for my router and still the same problem, I will be going to best buy and picking up a Linksys router to see if that works! I called D-Link and the tech there informed me that they have been receiving hundreds of calls form apple owners concerning the same issue of dropping the wifi connection. They D-Link believe the issue is Apple has apparently changed the way the wifi chipset picks up a wifi signal and that there is frequency interference.

What do you guys/gals think?

Basically them saying, they know about the problem, have not looked into it yet since the Mac user base is so small compared to the rest of the world thus they will EVENTUALLY get to it.

If you're going to get a new router, get a WRT54GL
Throw on dd-wrt or tomato firmware, and you have yourself a gawdrouter.

That's what I did (dd-wrt) on about 6 routers of mine :)

what does it do to it?? links for installation guide? Does it work for and WRT54G?

Back on topic, I think you should spring for a Draft-n router. Of course assuming that your macbook is one of the second generation and that your hp is compatible, which is even more unlikely. Altought it might be worth it for you.

It depends on your WRT54G version number.
If you do not have a WRT54GL, I strongly suggest you skim through http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page and find out if your hardware is supported or not.

DD-WRT is a free, open source firmware replacement for many Linksys routers (and many others as well). It has a ton of new features and offers serious stability.

It is always improving everyday, it is the reason why I use WRT54GL routers and no other (even the Apple routers -- although I love them a lot for their simplicity)

I am savin up for the new apple wireless router, I am not sure if it will work in my macpro though. I bought a wireless card for it in november when i bought the whole system. Compusa had a no interest deal on mac products, got me a macbook and the GF a MacPro.
GOod stuff

That's what I did (dd-wrt) on about 6 routers of mine :)

6 routers... do you have them all on? You must have a friggin HUGE house.

I used to run two... but found a central location that allowed me to drop to a single router again.

Only four of them in the house, the others are in the lobby of the office.
The house is not just big, but the walls are very thick and in some sections there are (I think, some sort of rock) granite walls.

Whats the firmware version of your apple laptop? If you upgraded the firmware to something higher than firmware version 1.3 you might have a problem. Dlink changed soe of heir protocols or soething like that that wouldnt allow my ipaq handheld to connect. Once i reset back to firmware 1.3 i didnt have a single problem. You could try that before spendig money on a new router.
