its been almost a year since i started an account here at [H] and all the reviews for video cards i see are tested with very very high resolutions, and most people here ( i think ) use lower resolutions....im not complaining, i just like to know, what is the average resolution for gaming on this community.......;)

i play at 1680 x 1050.....i wanted to start a poll but i didnt know how......please some tell me how ?

My guess most are using your resolution or on a HDTV at 1080i (1920 × 1080).
I game at 1920x1200 except for Crysis. :p

24in LCDs are finally becoming affordable for many.

i would use whatever the monitor's native resolution was.... or the capability of the GPU.. whichever is lower... or the max settings in-game

Actually I game at 4960x1600 if softTH supports the game. If not then 2560x1600, if my 8800gtx can support it with decent fps. If not I dont bother.

@slamcmy, games here at [H] are not tested at very very high resolutions. They are tested to see what is the highest playable setting.

So when the ASUS 9600 silent was tested with CoD the following 1920x1200 res was used as highest playable res.

8600GT Lost Planet highest playable is 1024x786:

Get the picture? So when they test gtx 280 it would not make sense to say the highest playable setting is 1024x786 with 1000 fps ;-)

Also this way, when you are looking for a gpu, you can look at the reviews and see what card is right for u.

1280x1024 for fast reaction gaming, (Quake , UT) but 1600x1200 for SP games or other sim or rpgs.

19`` or 21`` CRT baby. :D

My new 22" LCD runs 1680 x 1050, so thats what I set up everything to run at. She's purdy.

I game on my 24" Starforce which I got from the circuit city clearance for around $170. If I end up moving some time soon I may end up getting a 30" to try out 2500 x 1600.

Currently on my laptop at 1680x1050, but once my desktop is done soon it will be 1900x1200 on a 26" monitor.

1680x1050, native res, which I am quite okay with and seems to be the current mid-range sweet spot.

1600x1200 on my 19" CRT if my GPU can handle it, if not, 1280x1024 or if I really need maximum frame rates 1024x768.

Been pondering grabbing a LCD, but I'm not quite sure of how well they work for gaming, especially if my GPU can't handle the native res for a particular game and still provide good frame rates.

Lowering res = how bad on a LCD for image quality?

I'm also not sure about the ghosting on LCDs. I remember seeing a very old (one of the 1st) LCDs being rather useless for gaming due to absurd ghosting, but haven't seen newer LCDs running fast paced games, which I'm sure are vastly improved.

I guess I'm one of the losers still stuck at 1280 x 1024 on a regular 4:3 monitor. :)

20'' at 1680x1050... this AL2051W has been a real keeper for me. I'm not planning on changing monitors anytime soon.

1680x1050 here, though I want to upgrade to a 2560x1600 display at some point :D, or at least 1920x1200 :p .

i use none of those resolutions.

i play all my pc games in 1920x1080, on my 46" Sharp Aquos LCD.

:)

I'm still rocking 1280x1024. I was going to grab a new monitor to go with my new system when gas prices spike so I guess I gotta wait until Christmas when I have extra money again. :(

Heh, I love my 19in 1280x1024 NEC LCD. Its really purty and is just the right size for my smallish room :) Of course, rocking 1280x1024 means I feel the upgrade need a whole lot less :D

1680 x 1050 on a dell 22" monitor... Best of both worlds IMO, a fairly large screen (no 24", but still much cheaper) and a lower resolution...

I never thought I'd say this but as of late I game at 1920x1200. Good thing Mass Effect is so well coded I can do this with everything on highest settings and a measly 9600gt.

'Rockin at 1280x1024' doesn't make sense to me without Aa.

I was never happy gaming at that resolution unless I enabled 4x AA to cover up the jaggies. But in that case it was fine; if the system can handle AA of this sort the resolution doesn't matter so much. Nice thing about hi res gaming is the AA becomes less & less needed; still try to use 2xaa though, even at 1920x1200

Well, yeah, but the graphical complexity of the game isn't really that stellar...
