What NVidia would be comparable to an ATI 9800 Pro?

gf5950 was almost equal to a 9800xt so that might be what your lookin for or just a 5900

It's kind of hard to come with a nVIDIA counterpart to the 9800 Pro. It's because although nVIDIA introduced the 5900 and 5950 to compete with the 9800 Pro and the 9800XT, neither of those cards could really keep up with the ATI ones. So, although the prices may have been simiar during those days, the ATI cards in that generation were faster a greater majority of the time.

As for the comparison to the 6600GT, the GT will beat the 9800 Pro and the 9800XT a great majority of the time.

If I were you, I would leave the old generation behind and get a 6600GT. Don't waste money on the 59xx series from nVIDIA. I skipped that whole line of generation from nVIDIA.

today, the only comparable card is the 6600GT, and if you are buying new today, buy the GT instead. If you already have a 9800Pro, keep that, the 6600GT is equal to it but not really better.

If you have a 9800pro, keep it. It is good with all the new games. Dont buy a new card just yet. 6600GT is equal but not better. A better Nvidia card would be 6800** cards. But if you have a 9800pro, theres no point of that upgrade. Keep it now and save up for the future. New cards are on the way. They already announced 512MB cards and who knows what kind of features would those cards have. So it would be a waste to buy a card at this point.

What reviews have you ppl been reading? The 6600GT absolutely owns the 9800pro; there isn't even a comparison. Hell the 6600GT even makes a fool out the 9800XT (click here). In Halo @1600x1200 the AGP 6600GT (which has its mem. clocked 100Mhz lower than the PCI-E 6600GT) is bringing fps that are about 25% higher than the 9800XT. The only benchmarks in that review that the 9800XT can compete with the 6600GT in are ones like 3DMark01 where the CPU is holding the 6600GT back.

So if a 6600GT can do this to a 9800XT, just imagine what how badly it will beat a 9800pro.

And this is coming from a person who is traditionally loyal to ATI.

comparable to the 9800 pro i would say the geforce 6200 Unlocked and OC'ed. I have mine running at about 356 core and 660 mem and I get a little higher than 9800 pro speeds.

yes, non-TC. TC has nothing to unlock.

Acutally, new nonTC 6200's are not able to unlock (the pipes are there but cannot be unlocked yet)

If you have $180 take the 6600GT.

I'd say stay with the 9800Pro for now, the performance increase for the cost just isn't worth it at the time. Hold out till May-June until the new cards are released, and hopefully by then, the new cards will be out and it'll push the price of some of the 6800Series down.

Man, do people ever even read the question around here?

"What in the NVidia line would compare?"

The 6600 GT. It is faster than the 9800 Pro, and about $200. The older nVidia cards made to compete with the 9800 Pro (FX 5900 Ultra) were inferior.

"Also, is this a good card for the buck?"

Yes, that is a good deal. 9800 Pros are still going for $200-250 alot of places.

"What about "BULK"?"

Bulk/OEM cards are fine, all you are giving up is the pretty box.

THANKS everyone for your responses but a special thanks CastleBravo, got right to the point of everything I was asking. THANKS CastleBravo!
