Starcraft II was my choice- no question. Its a great game- keeps the spirit of the original, with improved game mechanics and easier controls, and a great single player campaign (its still got about as many missions as the original), compelling story, etc. The matchmaking is great for me because I actually have a CHANCE to win. With the original, I was dead before I started online every time.
Second for me was ME2- enjoyed the first, but the improvements in combat and graphics and mechanics/team control made it so much better. Also loved the storyline- the beginning of that game is one of the biggest surprises I've ever experienced in a game.

Black Ops needs to be in the "worst of the year" poll. Paid 50 bucks for that game and it stutters to the point where it's unplayable. This was my last ditch effort for Treyarch. That'll teach me I guess!

I know you don't wanna see this, but here it is. I haven't played Blops yet, but BC2 was unplayable for me on an E8400 @ 4Ghz. It ran ok on a Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz, but not until I put in an i5 760 did I feel satisfied. Well, that and a 470. And that's @ 1680.

    Best:
    Alien Swarm!!!!

    Worst:
Bad Company 2 or should I say "Gaming in Bungie Cords 2"

SC2 easily if you are into the multiplayer. From what I've heard, SC1 was relatively unbalanced for years, but SC2 is already extremely balanced. I can see myself playing it on and off for a long time.

The single player was very average (though the amazingly epic cinematic scenes gave it a huge boost). If they want the next 2 expansions to be worth buying at all, they are going to have to step up the single player.

StarCraft 2 for me.. probably because it will be the only game on the list that I will still have installed a year from now.

Then there is something seriously wrong with this game because my fps never drops below like 45ish, but the game will quite literally freeze for a fraction of a second(or slightly longer) but still register as 60-90 fps the entire time. To be honest the processor issue is somewhat of a moot point, CoD4 ran like a beauty, looked as good, and I never had an issue.

Thank you though for the info, that's very interesting...

IIRC, MW2 didn't need more than 2 cores. I went through hell w/ BC2, so I know how you feel. For whatever reason, Nvidia's drivers didn't particularly care for a mix of that game, a C2Q, and a Fermi. Toss in an i5 or i7 quad however, and all the stuttering goes away...gpu usage spikes up from 50 to 99%. It took a lot of convincing, but I finally caved. In the only 2 games I play L4D2 and BC2 (rarely), the i5 760 made a giant difference.

I sort of skipped Blops after reading all the stuttering issue problems. Heard it was good though. I'll probably pick up when it hits steam on the cheap for the SP.

Definitely Mass Effect 2 for me. Not a tough one because I froth at the mouth for RPGs like Mass Effect 1 & 2 (basically any bioware game so far). However, I will say that I greatly enjoyed BC2 and it is definitely my 2nd favorite.

anyone wo voted for anything EA is sadly mistaken and confused. There policy is to make it by this date, release it and fix it with 9 patches later and oh ya we forgot to add this map and that map is all wrong so were going to make you download over 10 gigs for each patch attitude cause our corporate office says so...GO Stalker COP !!!!:D

I vote Vindicutus 1st and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm 2nd. These are the only 2 games so far this year that haven't got me bored after a couple days of playing, although time will tell if WoW holds my interest.

Vindictus is a free-to-play Action MMO, setup similar to Guild Wars, were you have a main city and then instance out to peer-to-peer when you leave town and enter the dungeons. It's the first MMO I've played in years besides WoW that didn't just feel like a rehash of something that's already been done, thanks in part to the amazing physics, addictive gameplay, and superb character and monster design.

FPS just don't do it for me anymore. I got burnt out on them after Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike. It's all just the same shit with updated graphics, which is also why I chose Vindictus over WoW.

I never played any of the UT games, but this is exactly how I felt. I burnt myself out on Counter-Strike while in college ('99-'03) when I was part of a group that ran the official UMass CS Servers, then built myself a SCHWEET top-of-the-line gaming rig to celebrate graduating, and proceeded to never play games on it.

I didn't play any games at all for about six years until I stumbled accross Civ IV - BTS summer of 2009, and got myself addicted. Catching back up with HL2 came next, followed by the HL2 episodes, and now I am completely addicted to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

If you think FPS games are all tired and the same, give S.T.A.L.K.E.R a try. You can usually pick up the first one (Shadow of Chernobyl) pretty cheap on sale on Steam.

I like what this series did to liberate up the game-play and provide semi-realistic ballistics. The head bobbing takes some time to get used to, but can be reduced in intensity in config files (or disabled completely).

I have found - however - that while I used to exclusively play multi-player online games and found single player games boring, I now do exactly the opposite. The mindless running around and shooting in online MP games appeals to me less these days, and the story and immersiveness of the single player environments appeal to me more.

Maybe all you need is a six year break, like me? :p

Picked SC2 - I'm a storyline kind of guy. I realize the story was short, but I enjoyed it. SP levels were correct difficulty, bonus objectives lent to useful/interesting powerups.

Cost was steep, but in the end I enjoyed it enough to be satisfied with the purchase.

For me it would of been Dragon age Origins, as I didn't pick it up until Feb. or so. So I went with my second favorite PC Game of the year that I played, Mass Effect 2.

Minecraft should be on the list, it was one of the most popular PC games of the year. Even though there was the older classic version from last year, Minecraft Alpha is a 2010 game.
