What is the little circle on some pictures in text messages (IOS 10 & 11)

I have noticed these little multi-circle symbols show up on certain images in text messages. It's only on pictures taken by the camera, but it's not all camera pictures. It doesn't appear to do anything when you try to touch it. Phone just treats it like touching the picture. Shows up on both my phones which is iOS10 and iOS11.

Google is telling me its because its a Live Photo and you can use 3D Touch on it? I don't have an iPhone but maybe try that.

Oh your right! I have an iPhone 6 (non S, no 3D Touch), but my wife has an 8. I have to save it to Photos and then long press and it plays a little clip. Thank you sir

its a stupid annoying feature that keeps turning itself back on even though youve told iOS to preserve your settings

it makes a short movie clip out of your photo, so its a space waster
