What is the difference between Windows XP online activation and registration.?

I have just installed my copy of Windows XP Home and it asked for online activation and registeration.. as i was in a hurry i did just activation.. So is it going to matter anything..?? and can i do registration later on.? wot if i don;t do registration.. is it going to keep on working.?

All microsoft requires you to do is activation, registeration is optional.
 
activation tells micro$oft that you have a legal copy of xp. and registration is to tell microsoft that you love em and that you want to get email from them.
 
Combining Activation and Registration was a mistake, since people think they are the same thing.

They are two seperate things, activation is proving you have a legit copy of Windows XP.

Registration is just like every other warranty registration card. ;)
