Past faves of mine...
My Samsung 245BW fried when I moved, not so sure about the 2493/2494HM though. P2570 looks like a winner, but I need something I can mount. Maybe if the reviews are good I will consider making a custom mount for one...

BenQ G2400WD, E2400HD... both great, but is there a new replacement? The Asus and Acer monitors seem to be very hit & miss... chances are it would be a miss for me then.

I want a monitor with good response times, in particular interface lag. Most of the reviews I see though are for older monitors... like this: http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=3302&p=12

Any suggestions? HP L2475? Dell 2410?

The HP LP2475w has been great with games for me, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the same price class. The Dell U2410 is supposed to be around $200 more than the HP, but it may be better once all the reviews are in.

That Asus could be interesting... their dead pixel policy sorta scares me, but maybe worth looking into. Any idea on the release date though? I cant seem to find that anywhere. I can wait a little while... but Im not looking for a Christmas present here. :p

Too bad the F-series Samsungs are still laggy...

But it looks like the Z (120Hz) monitors have potential...

I dont know... thats pushing the threshold of what I would notice I bet. I dont really need IPS... I dont have 'off angle' viewing issues... its just me, and for gaming (and internet/text/etc.), and color accuracy, though nice for gaming, isnt needed. I should mostly be looking at the faster and brighter TN panel. Besides, as men, we only have 1/2 the color receptors of women, so how important can color be?

I just found this Benq G2400WT... looks pretty badass for gaming... http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2009/review-benq-g2400wt-part12.html Looks like its a UK only thing though... DRAT!

Maybe I should be waiting for the 120hz monitors...

Asus VW246H or VW266H

Get one from amazon so you can easily return it if you aren't happy or would like to exchange it for a new one.

So, wide gamut is good for gaming now (Dell U2410) ? Since when? I guess you wouldn't see the messed up colors in games unless you had a non wide gamut monitor next to it.

Well, there is SOME loss since TN panels are really only 6-bit color and using dithering to make the rest... but yeah, I dont know why these slower IPS panels get mentioned. If I have to pick between speed and colors on a gaming monitor... well... duh.

I got a used 20wmgx2, and never looked back. I can handle the smaller 4 inches , since the quality is superb, and the gaming is even better. Not to mention a glossy screen ips, just looks outstanding in lower lights.

I ordered the Samsung P2570 for $299 (NO TAX AND NO CA WASTE FEE!!!) from www.pcconnection.com what a DEAL.

It has DVI and HDMI ports.

It arrives on Tuesday. Perhaps I'll make an unboxing vid and show some playback performance. I noticed on my 2253BW that the switch to Windows 7 Ultimate RTM brought much better Windows Media playback, I couldnt notice any tearing at all. Hopefully I get the same tear-free playback in this unit.

The Dell U2410 is S-IPS and has ~1/2 frame (8ms) of input lag on average.

Thats pretty cool. Would you happen to have an old CRT around that you could run dual outputs on with a stopwatch program? This would show the input lag.

Any update on this? Would you be able to run stopwatch with a CRT? I think I would like the 2570 myself, but I want to make sure its input lag is Benq e2400wt and not Dell 2408WFP.

Disagree.

Works fine for gaming and I bet I can own your ass in Quake :)

Which one? There is an HP and Dell being talked about there.

Well, if you are into fast paced reflex based shooters, Im sure you can compensate for the input lag in many ways... but just imagine how much better you might be off if you used a CRT or a monitor that didnt have a 27+ms input lag. The human eye CAN tell that much. Often, it can pick up as little as 10ms, and some can pick up as little as 5ms.

Lol... 245T and T240... if I want to never play FPS's again...lol. Or, I could play them and revisit the 'wait, I died back there even though it looked like I had ducked already?' memory.

Dell 2407WFP. I own it and I used to frequently play BF2, TF2, etc, etc (hundreds of hours) without any issues.

A friend of mine just went with his first LCD, a LP2475w, and he said he doesn't even notice any lag, and he plays mostly Counterstrike.

I'm still using my amazing Sony 21' CRT as there is no LCD on the market that can match the features of a high quality CRT (especially in regards to gaming)

that being said if I had to pick an LCD right now it would come down to either the NEC LCD2490WUXi (H-IPS) or the HP LP2475w (H-IPS)...the NEC is expensive but it probably is the best LCD out

Yeah, thats the truth. I still like my 22" Mits tubes (NEC FP2141SB-BK, HP P1230, Mits DP2070SB-BK), but they take up alot of desk space, and they are getting old. I will most likely keep them for just gaming (when I am in tourneys), but I was hoping I could find a LCD replacement because one is starting to get the 'jaggy lines' in text and losing its phosphor intensity in the corners. Also, I like having the widescreen viewing area for FPS games. I have considered getting a Sony FW900, but I have a hard time paying the money they charge for such a small screen considering you can get a much larger LCD for less... and the FW900's are heavy and often heavily used & w/o warranty... just not worth it IMO. Im waiting for a review on the input lag on the Samsung P2570's... I saw one today and it was rather nice.

Consideration list (Im including some 25/26" LCD's since they are really just 24's with the extra height versions of the 1080 24"ers to make them 1600x1200s):
Samsung 2443BWT
Samsung P2570/2370
Samsung ??? 2493/2494???
Asus VW266H / 246H
BenQ ??? their models change faster than a victoria's secret model on speed... cant keep track of them all. I suppose I could rely on some current version of an older model and bet that its input lag is almost minimal still... but what if I bet wrong? They change so fast you cant find reviews on them.

Wait for the 120Hz Asus VG242H?

Ill have to wait and see what reviews I can find. If anyone knows of some that have input lat tests beyond tftcentral, xbitlabs, prad, anandtech, bit-tech... let me know

Well, Samsung P series might be off the list pending an actual review. Despite claims, I have heard from more than one person who has one now there there is some considerable ghosting/blur... this monitor is not as fast as some of the others as claimed...??? Going back and looking at PRAD, they prefer the Samsung 2494 over the Asus vw246h. They also noted that the BenQ G2411HD has a notable input lag unlike some of its brothers... like the previous G2400WD's (the WD is a W model with overdrive for the 2ms response time, sure wish I knew what the V,G, and E series meant though). I wonder how the G2412HD and G2410HD's fair as well as the G2400WT. The BenQ V2400W and E2400HD are also on my list to find out more... They have a new V2400 Eco (LED backlit) as well... but I wouldnt hold my breath. See what I mean though... sooo confusing. Im sure Im not alone when I say despite the repution of a few great monitors they have made, I might just avoid the confusion and look elsewhere.

edit: v2400w is out based on PRAD's input lag reports, but their tests on the E2400HD look good. Bugger... looked at the E2400HD's for sale... discontinued or expensive. The G2400WT is ??? great response, but read the conclusion (and upon further looking, I cant find it for sale)...
http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2009/review-benq-g2400wt-part12.html

If anyone knows of a review that measures the input lag of the Benq G2412HD or G2410HD, LMK. They are in the same category as the Sammy P23&2570 right now... on my short list, but without a response time measure, Im not risking it. The more I think of it though, the P series not having VESA mounts is a PITA and its either a 23 or 25" thats rather expensive for what it is... blah (I had considered the P2570 since it was listed in error as a 1900x1200). So lets see... that leaves the Asus VW246H (I dont need the 26") and the Samsung 2494HM on the SHORT LIST. Pending reviews, the P23or 2570, BenQ G2410/2412HD (although the G2412 is impossible to find for sale it seems...).

eh... maybe not the 2494HM after all... http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2009/review-samsung-2494hm-part13.html but the 2493hm is still in it seems... but I cant find a place to buy it. So... it looks like the Asus VW246h is at the top of the heap. If I could get a review on the input lag of the Sammy P's or the BenQ G2410/12hd's, it might be different, but right now...

All I can find on the Sammy P2x70 series is this:
http://www.digitalversus.com/article-357-5568-36.html#

Anyone find anything else?

here is a review that makes it sound pretty good.

http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitor...p2370/4505-3174_7-33499228.html?tag=mncol;txt

The best part about the p2370 is most reviewers seem to think it was very good colors right out of the box, perhaps the best imaginable for a fast tn panel. I am thinking about waiting for the xl2370 led screen but the price might be quite a bit higher.

According to the CNET review, the XL should only cost a few bucks more. I dont know how much that is worth though... LED backlighting is great for greyscale and color reproduction, but sorta lost on a 6-bit TN monitor, you know? It might save some on the electric bill I suppose... but with the monitor now having to turn on and off the LED's as well as the LCD pixels, I would be wary of what it might do to the input lag. If you are gonna wait for the next big thing... 120hz would be more important IMO.

Too bad neither of those reviews had an input lag calculation done. Thats really what makes me wary of pulling the trigger on the P2370 or 2570.

Add one to the 'investigate' list... the Benq E2420HD...

edit: looks like the E2420 along with the G2412HD might be EU only models... not found at Amazon, pricewatch, or egg...

Hmm... found an E2400HD at buy.com for $299... http://www.buy.com/prod/benq-e2400h...dc-2ms-gtg-1920x1080/q/loc/101/209114562.html

So what monitor you leaning towards?

I think I might wait for the ASUS VG242H but I'm not sure when it comes out.
