Hi guys,

I mostly play games and at times I download games from steam. Is there a benefit to buying a PCI NIC? I really do not know much about this topic so im curious to get enlightened. Links are appreciated. so are comments.

Thanks in advance.

(along the same topic): My friend just got FIOS which gets 25mb/s speeds. His PC which I built/gave to him is athlonXP 2500 using onboard NIC, so you know the CPU is working hard enuff and any offloading of processes from the CPU will probably be helpful.

Do only Intel NIC's offload the work from the CPU? Or will other (such as D-link 530TX) also offload work from the CPU?

edit: Mobo is nforce2-400, Onboard NIC is "MCP NVIDIA MAC + Realtek RTL8201BL PHY"

edit: I think I have a microsoft branded broadcom NIC under my bed somewhere. It was given to me for free, lest anyone think I actually paid money for it...
