So I am going to upgrade my 1080 to either a 2070 or 2080..

I just got it from EVGA not too long ago so I still qualify for Step Up.

I am considering one of the following.

EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC BLACK EDITION GAMING, 08G-P4-2071-KR
or
EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 XC BLACK EDITION GAMING, 08G-P4-2082-KR

Because I am using the step up program I am looking at 100 + shipping for the 2070 or 320 + shipping for the 2080

For reference this is what I have now (except I only paid 430 for it in August). The system it will be in is a 7700 with 32gb ram and all SSD storage. So the cash spent wont buy me a meaningful upgrade anywhere else in my system either.

Oh & I play primarily PUBg at 2560x1080, and dabble in most new shooters looking to replace PUBg and its broken ass bugs that never seem to get fixed.

So what say you [H] is the 2080 worth the extra 220 bucks it'll cost me over the 2070.

2070 would be a sidegrade at best.. for you, the only path upgrades are 1080Ti, 2080 or 2080Ti. however at that resolution you should be more than fine even with your current GTX 1080.

I know its a non issue right now, but the DLSS was showing a huge step up (~30%) in performance for PUBg based on the initial nVidia slide. So even the side step should eventually lead to a substantial performance increase.

The value curve is pretty linear between the cards (retail values anyways). I’d personally go with a 2080.

For a game like PubG I’d get as much power as I could for antialiasing reasons.

The RTX is better on the 2080 not sure if you could tell the difference in game because Battlefield V is the first game really to make use of it.

Well here we are almost 3 months later and I finally got the approval for the step up...

Just couldn't do it though. So far DLSS is nothing but vaporware which gives me zero reason to spend 360 bucks to upgrade when I play one game and I play it with the frames capped and the settings not maxed to improve my advantage in the game anyway.
