The GeForce 8800GTX by far. I bought mine the first week the card became available in November 2006. I kept adding them as SLI support for them grew. Eventually I had three of them in my system when I replaced them with dual 9800GX2's which I got on release day March 2008.

Interesting to see how many in this thread have a version of the 8800 as their longest lasting main rig gaming card. Was mine also as noted in the OP , (possibly tied with the Voodoo 2 SLI).

The 8800 was what got me fully back on team green (still like both ATI and Nvidia , more competition the better for all) , after changing to team Red for the 9700/9800 time frame.

I think this was during Nvidia 5xxx series which was a rough time for Nvidia if I remember correctly.

8800GT. Bought January 2007. Added a second at the end of 2007 and kept them until 2010.

Next month is the 2 year mark for all of us day one Titan buyers. Hoping to make 3 years (Feb '16) but probably will buy "revised" big Maxwell, whatever and whenever that is, if it even will exist.

Longest lasting was definitely my 9700 Pro. I used it up until the X850XT came out I believe and continued using it on my "LAN party machine" for a few years.

It's going to be my 980GTX. There's no reason to upgrade for quite a while, and I'm getting more into console gaming anyway.

9800 Pro. What a card!

Ditto. I had a 9700 pro also, but ruined it while prying off the metal shim around the GPU to install a better cooler, hence the 9800. That 9800 pro was a great card in its time.

OCed 480 GTX. Still using it, still running all games I need, bought when it came out.

Beyond that 8800GTX for sure.

eVGA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked 65nm

2008-2010 : 2012-present

In that gap: GTX 480 and GTX 580

My GTX 970 will be here next week :)

Last demanding games I've played on the 260: Ass Creed II, Outlast, Dark Souls: Titanfall Beta: Trine 2

Same card for me. Its still running in my youngest sons machine.Totally bad ass card, was spanking aquamark, etc at the time.

My GTX 460 1GB, which will soon be replaced. Had it since July 2010.

Overclocked, it was faster than a stock GTX 470, which was simply amazing!

My 7970 has been great since I got it. It still pulls its weight at 1080p. When I upgrade to 1440p/4k it's going to be time for an upgrade.

8800 gts 512... it lasted me from 2007 until 2012 (I was a poor grad student), when I bought an ultrabook with ivy bridge integrated graphics (after I became gainfully employed)

before that I was rocking a geforce 4 mx from 2002 ish until 2006.

2x EVGA GTX580 have lasted the longest...that's what happens when you get married and have children; you lose out on time and money :)

PNY 6600 fan got noisy after like 8 years or so but some oil fixed it. Used it like for a decade.

9800 pro was the card i had the second longest. Had it from december 03 til December 05 when i got a 7800 gt. Then the 7800 gt got replaced by the 8800 gt the next year. 8800 gt got replaced by the 260 gtx almost as soon as it came out in june 2008. 260 gtx was the shortest lived card, that thing got replaced by a core 216 260 gtx the second i saw benchmarks lol.

the gtx 260 core 216 lasted me until i got a 560 ti in 2011. So technically, it was the card i owned the longest at around 2.5 years. The 560 ti got replaced by a 580 gtx the next year, and i had that until i upgraded to a 980 gtx in october 2014.

so...
9800 pro december 03 til december 05
7800 gt december 05 til december 06
8800 gt december 06 til july 08
260 gtx july 08 til september 08 (lol)
260 gtx core 216 september 08 until march 2011
560 ti march 2011 until june 2012
580 gtx june 2012 until october 2014

Add me to the list of eVGA GTX 260 (216) owners. Bought it back in March of 2009 for $127 and it is still running in my main computer. It came with a lifetime warranty and I am waiting for it to crap out to see what eVGA would replace it with. Thing just keeps going and going and going...

AMD 3870x2 is the card I have the longest that's still in use. I put an Artic cooler on it when I bought it and it is still been used today for older games. It's in my secondary AMD machine.

The card that I used longest in my main gaming rig was the 4870x2, brought it at launch and kept it until I replaced with a 6950.

And I was just looking through my video card history, I have never kept a Nvidia card longer than a year. The 680 GTX was the longest at just under a year.

The 4870x2 was literally the shortest lived card in my gaming rig. I had tons of problems with it in my D5400XS based system back in the day. I had the card for maybe two weeks.

I had a couple of them and for most games only one GPU ever worked even on a single card. On a P55 based system it worked perfectly. So it was some issue with the D5400XS and the 4870x2.

Its pretty sad, but I dont think I've ever kept a GPU more than a year... :( I get the upgrade bug to much...

GTX 560TI 448 --> GTX 570 (SLI) --> HD6970 --> HD7970 DC2 --> GTX 680 --> GTX 680 (SLI) -- HD7950 (Xfire) --> GTX 780 (SLI) --> GTX 780 Ti Classy (3 SLI) and an R9 290X Lightning --> GTX 980 and 2 GTX Titans

I have the upgrade bug right now but don't feel like anything is a worthy upgrade over my Titan Black and it's pretty hard to find a 2nd Titan Black new for less than $1500 and the used ones are selling for around $900. Trying to hold out until GM210.

The card that lasted me the longest, as I recall, was a first-gen Geforce 256. I think I used that thing for at least four years.

The 8800GT is also a contender - I have one of those that is now toiling away in my girlfriend's PC, that gets used pretty much exclusively for web surfing. I wonder if I shouldn't replace it with the Radeon 5450 I just pulled out of the HTPC...

This 6950 has lasted me at least 3 years so far. I can't remember when I bought it exactly, but it was pretty close to launch. It still serves me well, and I have few reasons to upgrade.

Kinda scary but my upgrade path looks similar to yours, but less multi-gpu setups and more single gpu upgrades

9800 Pro. (with a danger den water block for cooling) which was also my last ATI card. Mostly due to linux drivers at the time being far better for Nvidia. The 9800 itself was a great card.

I've been using an EVGA GeForce GTX 570 Superclocked since 2011. I've been thinking of upgrading, but haven't been able to talk myself into spending the money when I can still run everything I need to run just fine.

In recent memory. Gtx 780 SLI lasted me 1.5 years. Longest that I remember since 2006.

9800 Pro probably, or X1800XT. I was in college when I bought those so I didn't have a whole lot of money to spend on PC parts, so I'd buy one mid-high end card every ~3 years.
