What games have you regretted buying?

Restricted Area - I mean how hard could it be to make a post-apocalyptic Diablo clone?
Master of Orion 3 - Hey the first two were great, so they couldn't screw it up too bad, could they?
Battlefield 2 - Where's did co-op and all the other play modes go? At least a modern game will have widescreen; where's the widescreen?

There's actually very few games I regret buying lately, I tend to do my research beforehand before buying any game now.

That said though off the top of my head I deeply regret buying the following:

Anarchy Online - bought it day 1 when the game was released, servers where down more than they were up, Funcom's solution to appease everyone was to give 2 free weeks of play. Too bad the servers still didn't work during the free 2 weeks. Funcom made my blacklist from that moment onwards.

DOOM III - seriously, what was all the hype over this game? It was without a doubt the worst FPS I have ever played. I felt like I was playing a cheap imitation of System Shock II. The gameplay was incredibly predictable and boring. It was like, oh the lights just went out, gee I'll be ever so surprised when something jumps out at me around the next corner. Bah, what a stupid game.

Lets go with...

Age Of Empires 3 (collectors edition); its so freak'n [H]ard!!
Fable (PC); SOOOO addicting
Half-Life 2; I beat it, but was so depressed I felt like cutting myself :(

All of these games were/are good, and I beat 2 of them, I just didn't like them for certain reasons.

Star Wars Force Commander - There is no greater piece of shit ever produced.

Supreme Commander - Meh. It seemed cool, and I can see why people like it, but it just does not captivate my attention or motivate me to play it.

Unreal 2 - Blah and meh.

Halo - One of the worst console ports ever.

Star Trek Klingon Honor Guard - If they would have patched some of the glitches so you could actually advance to the next level without using the console commands it would have been a great game.

Battlezone 2: The original is one of the greatest Old School games ever produced. The sequel did nothing to hold my attention and I quickly lost interest.

Battlefield Vietnam - Way to sour the great taste I had in my mouth from Battlefield 1942.

Black and White - I still don't see how anyone could find this game amusing.

Honorable Mentions:

Star Trek Legacy - The control scheme and mission design had me swearing for days. However, I eventually got the hang of it, and now enjoy the game on skirmish mode.

BF2: Special Forces

played it for a few days, then never touched it ever again.

i really can't think of any. I don't have a lot of money to throw around so I have to make sure I will 100% enjoy the game before I buy it. So I do a lot of research

BF2142.....Complete POS in my mind....

I'll take the CD key/account off your hands :)

I got Halo a week ago because I remember playing it on my old computer a long time back... it was sorta unsynched, the movements were lagging behind, and the online portion is so pathetic, 20 bucks down the drain x51

Recently, I picked up that Attorney game from Capcom on DS. It's not terrible, just something I have some regret buying, but I'll hold on to it.

Worst regret of all time for me is a sports game. I returned HardBall for Genesis, to get Tony LaRussa's baseball. HardBall was a much better baseball game.

Didn't like an Ace Attorney game... not cool.

HardBall was good though... got a lot of playtime out of it and still have it.

For me, I'd say Thief and Thief II. Not because they're bad games, but I've only ever gotten through one and a half levels of the first game. I like it, but so much new stuff has come out over the years and takes precedence. I've never installed Thief II. I've also had BioForge and Zork Nemesis for even longer and never got far at all in either game. They're not bad, just old and forgotten.

Halo for the pc.. Craptastic port of a good xbox game.. Had it been released a lot sooner on pc, and been ported by monkeys instead of bungieholio, it could of been pretty good..

World of Warcraft. I wish I could get the time I put into that game back. The 1800 bucks I got for my account I'll keep though :0

Lost Planet. got up to the first wormy boss, died, and never played it again.

lol! you don't even need to kill that boss, unless you want the achievement, but you can run past it and finish the level. (i did that, but i may go back and kill it later)

man y is everyone doggin on halo? halo was wayy better on pc than on the xbox.

also for whoever said hl2, ur crazy, its a very good game, u have to use ur smarts to figure out how to pass some stuff in that game. i thought that was a cool add in

I wonder why? I enjoyed San Andreas and Vice City much, much more on PC. The graphics certainly blew the PS2 out of the water (I can't even stand to look at the PS2 version). The aiming controls were much better. The only thing I can think of is that you didn't like driving with the keyboard keys. You can use a controller, of course.

Yea guess I should clarify: I bought a game controller (simmilar to PS2) the same day I got VC. I could not for the life of me get the controller to work with the game, the same way it did with the PS2. Perhaps I should not blame the game, but the controller and its software.

Either way, I gave the game and controller to my best friend when the XBOX double pack came out. Awesome game, I know the city better than my own town, I just had a tough time with it for PC...

Red Orchestra is so misunderstood.

It requires patience (something this A.D.D. generation lacks) but the rewards are spectacular. Guns actually kill in one shot and over long distances and the firefights play out just like in the movies. No run and gun, a LOT of cover seeking, team reliance (cover fire, squad groupings), and constant fear of death, because you know it's just one shot away.

It really captures the awkwardness of WWII battle, carrying those heavy ass guns around and aiming them precisely before the enemy gets the bead on you.

If it did suck as much as some of you say then it wouldn't have been around this long, and it certainly wouldn't have gone from free UT2004 mod to full retail package like it did. Plenty of servers and dedicated players out there, even today.

Also, to those who say UT2004, are you kidding me? UT2004 is one of the few games out there worth the $50, because not only is it a game, but you have the whole entire engine at your disposal with some of the best if not THE BEST editing tools out there. Then factor in the hundreds upon hundreds of custom user made maps and mods and you have one of the most replayable games out there! Even if you don't like the core game, chances are there is a mod out there that suits your taste!

i regret buying oblivion and fear, 60 bucks for each and i cant play them cause my 6800gt is too damn slow :/

FF VII: Dirge of Cerebus

Was nothing like the FF VII I know and love. 10hrs straight to beat the game. ARGH!!

Mostly for the DS:

New Super Mario Brothers - Never really liked Mario so I don't know why I wanted to try a new version.
Super Mario 64 DS - Same as above
Advance Wars DS - Read the hype here and just don't like that type of game I guess.
Big Brain Academy - Kind of liked Brain Age, but not enough to waste the money on this one.
Sonic Rush - Got tired of the dual screen junk.

Xbox 360:

MotoGP 06 - Love the sport, follow it closely, ride a real bike, race them, etc. Game is too tedious and boring. Should have known this since I have a previous version for the Xbox, which makes this one worse because it's barely different.
Test Drive Unlimited - Fell short on many things, but mostly the driving physics were too random.

PC:

Sims 2 - got it on the cheap, but just don't play it at all.
MS Flight Simulator '04 - Got it and a joystick to play it with but never do. Wanted to re-live fake flying games from years ago, but it just wasn't fun this time.
Doom 3 - I love the original Doom, but this one wasn't Doom imo.

Funny (and sad). That's a lot of wasted money. I've quit buying games now due to them all disappointing me lately.

If the question had been what my favorite games in recent years were:

TrackMania - All of them up to the newest, United, but mainly Nations and it was free.
Marble Blast Gold and Ultra (360 version) - Both cheap and very fun.

If you want to defend a game, this is what I want to see. Please don't post one line responses attacking other's opinions.

Big Brain Academy - Kind of liked Brain Age, but not enough to waste the money on this one.
I'm gonna have to add that to my list. It was basically take these tests, get a score, rinse, repeat. At least Brain Age gave you a goal.

I bought Hitman: Contracts, played for two levels, and sold it. The game never managed to hold my attention.

I don't regret buying Red Orchestra because its bad (Its only partly bad.) I regret buying it because the gameplay is an unbalanced version of BF1942. Sure its accurate and realistic, but that doesn't make the fact that armor maps are lopsided and boring as hell. Don't even try playing as an infantryman on a map with armor. Its a joke. No one gets past the first zone (or whatever you call it.) Red Orchestra shines on its infantry only maps. Unfortunately, when I bought it, there were no infantry only servers up. You had to rotate through a bunch of armor maps to get to one fun infantry map. Ugh.

Doom III - Why not play with the monitor turned off? Too dark and cramped.

LOL. Mine would definitely be The Godfather for PC. I hated how every interior looked exactly the same and there was always one hard part in every building that you knew you had to deal with. Ohh and all the cars were gay!

ps2 - state of emergency

I got a ps2 with gta3 shortly before state of emergency came out. I bought into the rockstar name after I thought gta3 was the best game ever...

Starfox DS - Absolute rubbish. Retarded soap opera story. Even the online play was disappointing. I got rid of this game as soon as I could.

and....

Quake 3 -
They broke my game, that I bought on release day, with that punkbuster bullshit.
They never fixed it, and even after multiple formats and reinstalls, I still get kicked off servers for punkbuster authentication failing.
Absolute bullshit. I think this is what pushed me over the edge as to why i do not play online multiplayer anymore. (5 years ago? yeah, still mad.)

UT2004 off line= Boring as hell.
UT2004 online= Pure adrenaline pumping sweetness.

LOL I installed UT2K4 like 50 times during the last year, but just to play offline... I got my ass handed to me everytime online, so it wasn't fun. I completely got rid of the game about a month ago when my team and the opposing team kept turtling in those rugby matches (forgot what they're called in UT2K4) so no one could ever win.

Final Fantasy Online

A game called "Stolen" that most people probably have no clue about. Lucky you ;)

I fully agree with you there, I play RO for the infantry only maps and try to avoid the armor maps at all costs.

What kind of crack are you smoking? Half life was a better FPS than halo, Hell Quake 2 and Unreal were better.

I would have to say Star Wars: Republic Commando. I got it for $20, and never played very far, its just not up to par and I would rather play Jedi Academy. Also, Escape from monkey island. You see, Curse of monkey island is one of my favorite games. Escape just sucked with the whole new 3d thing. 3D just doesn't belong in adventure games folks. Stick with 2D cell animations please. Also Far Cry, it was too damn hard, and not very fun I had to cheat to finish it, which never happens.

Oblivion
Vanguard Saga of Heroes

Xbox360
Fucking Bullet Witch, its the worst game I have ever put into a console and I have had them all from 2600 to NeoGeo CD and Cartridge Jaguar CD, etc etc Its fucking horrible.

I regret buying: Mafia, GTA series, kill.switch, Iron Storm, any of the Rainbow 6 series, Icewind Dale, Wizardry 8, any of the Hitman series (I don't like stealth games). Hated Stalker at first, then it grew on me, midway through the game.

FEAR. Doesn't live up to the hype at all, even in multiplayer. Ugly, cookie cutter maps. I bought it only because several people told me it really did a good job scaring you while playing. Only spot I can remember jumping at all was when the girl scuttled out from a cubicle like a crab.

Hitman. The original one. Played 2 or 3 levels and got bored.

Vampire: Bloodlines. I don't care what people claim about this game...it's ugly, the storyline sucked (as far as I bothered to play it), and the combat mechanics were so bad that even if the storyline and graphics were better than they are, it would still have completely ruined the game.

Halo. Both pc and Xbox versions. The original Doom and Wolfenstein were 1000x better than this FPS wannabe. For that matter, every FPS ever released for PC is better than this game. Only redeeming factor to this game are the flying vehicles...those are fun.

LOL. Mine would definitely be The Godfather for PC. I hated how every interior looked exactly the same and there was always one hard part in every building that you knew you had to deal with. Ohh and all the cars were gay!

yep definitively a "Mafia" wannabe !

Daikatana... nuff said
LOL, I bought that game just because it was so bad. The Gamestop here had it in the bargain bin for $1.50 a year or so back and I laughed and said the clerk, I have to own a piece of history.

I installed and tried to play it, man is it bad. Wow!
