What games do you think had the best music?

Turrican on the Amiga

Ecco the Dolphin

Subnautica. It has to be said that the guy who composed this masterpiece got fired anyway, for having politically incorrect opinions.

Then there's Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2:

And Horizon: Zero Dawn:

Doom 2016

^^ this. Doom 2016. Only game sound track I sought out in high bit rate so my entire neighborhood could enjoy the evil sub-sonics too.

Ultima VII (Complete)
Ultima VIII: Pagan
Quake I and III:Arena
Deus Ex: HR/MD

Quest for Glory series
Legendary Axe I and II
Ghouls n Ghosts
VVVVVV
Revenge of Shinobi
Secret of Evermore. (I believe this is Jeremy Soule's first soundtrack, I hung out in his studio at Square Redmond when it was there. Nice guy.)
Actraiser
Megaman 1-3
Castlevania series
Leander
Awesome
Time Trax (unreleased Genesis)
Any C64 game with music by Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Tim Follin, Ben Daglish. Maybe Jeroen Tel.

I could go on and on. I think there's an older thread with a lot more from about a year or two ago.

I believe the soundtrack was insturmental (ehm...) in Fallout becoming as successful as it was.

Diablo
Quake 2
Modern Warfare 1 and 2
Darksiders 1 and 2
Mass Effect series
Painkiller
DMC: Devil May Cry
Infamous

Life is Strange and Before the Storm.

Hearing pretty much any songs from those brings on the crippling depression every single time. Such poignant songs tied to some seriously emotional moments in game.

As far as cinematic soundtracks, I'd have to give it to the Metal Gear Solid series.

More recently, Nier Automata. THIS CANNOT CONTINUE.

Good lord too many to count,

This one sticks out above all others though,

Nether Animal, Mechanism 8, Run, Phobos & Foregone Destruction (y)
