what does the "u" mean?

did some searching on this, couldn't find an answer, hope someone can help...

this is probably a REALLY dumb question... ;p

thinking about doing a memory upgrade...

when i run sandra and get system information, it identifies the memory in my box as

"pc2-3200u"....

i know the pc2 part and the 3200 part... i can't figure out the "u" part...

ideas? comments? help?

set timing @200mhz: 5.0-3-3-8

it's a hp media center pc... m1280n....

hmmm... 2X512mb sticks came with the machine...

any other info that might be helpful?

does the lack of a "u" imply registered then? judging from what i've been able to understand (and it's damn little :) ) from the memory faq, registered memory is rarer than unregistered memory, yet it seems like all the ads for memory don't have a "u" after the 3200...

confusion runs rampant through my little brain... :eek:
 
most ram is unregistered unless it's specifically advertised as registered/buffered. there are some exceptions, as always, but it's rare.

and good call on that U baron.. i'll have to remember that :D

Yeah, I remember seeing "R" and "U" in sandra and it just clicked that they were in reference to being registered or unregistered.
