If I weren't going to do any overclocking, would the intel stock cooler be sufficient for my needs? All suggestions welcome! thanks
 
Drop the V8 completely or just pick up a Hyper 212+. If your spending 2k I would get a better mobo than the AsRock and a better gpu than HIS. Also I would suggest going with G.Skill/Corsair memory over the OCZ. Your spending an ass ton on the case when you could use that money to get quality parts for the rest of your build.

$2003 w/o any combo savings... how does that look? Any weak points now? I've had lian-li before and their build quality is amazing, which is one reason I had selected it. That and a door. The Antec case was actually on my list before the lian-li

Better, not sure why you want such an expensive motherboard.

I would go with the antec 300 illusion unless you are adverse to the blue led's (its actually 5 dollars cheaper since it has free shipping)

Otherwise pretty good yeah. You should be looking for combo deals to save yourself $20 here and there.
 
Nice rig, I have the P6X58D. It's actually a very stable board but I've had a SATA port die on me and it has an issue booting properly from the correct drive. It's a known issue but I have old bootable OS drives that I'm using as data drives and that my be causing some issues. But at 4Ghz the thing is rock solid.
 
Is the UD3R a pretty legit motherboard? Replacing the Asus with the gigabyte comes to $1903. That'll help pay for shipping + any accessories I might need/want. Thanks shadow!

Yeah the UD3R is a pretty good mobo.
 
Forget the HIS, go with XFX.

As for the SSD...i personally cant justify the price. For the same money spent id get a 250-500 gig OS drive and a 2 TB storage drive instead of the SSD speed. Dont get me wrong..id love the speed...but for the few extra seconds the 80GB vs multiple TBs isnt worth it to me. Again, just my opinion.

Actually...for a bit more than 225...ive got 2x250gb drives in RAID 0 for OS and nothing important, and a 1 TB RAID 1 for everything important. 1.5 TB of storage with 2/3 of redundancy for the important shit for ~300 aint bad IMHO.
 
heres my plan in regards to the SSD:

I am currently getting ahold of a MediaSmart EX485. That will back everything up, plus hold all my media (music, movies...) and other stuff.

Right now all I have is a MacBook Pro with a WD Studio 2 750gig external drive. I plan on transferring everything to the 485 and then reformat the external and use the e-SATA on this new rig.
