I am trying decide whether to buy a gtx 770 or r9 280x in hopes of them working with remotefx in hyper-v and hoping to game with them in VMs while utilizing directx.

I have heard of a couple success stories of consumer grade graphics card working fine in 2012 or 2008 server hyper-v with remotefx, such as the gtx 450 or gtx 460 ( i think), gtx 650, maybe some radeon cards.

Since these are older cards I was wondering if there were anymore recent cards that should or have been known to work fine with hyper-v and remotefx under windows server 2008-2012

Having not tried this in a long time, I think that I was successful with a test lab and a 7970 or a 280x. I am not sure what kind of performance you are looking for as far as scaling as i remember to be fairly unimpressed, but it did work. This was on a server 2008r2 server with win 7 clients. I hope this helps a bit.

I have a hyperv core 2012 R2 with an nvidia gt730. Remote fx functions fine. My research has led me to believe that any card that is wddm 1.2 and dx11 will work with 2012 r2 although I have not tested any AMD cards only nvidia 650ti, 660ti, 680, and 730. Guest must be enterprise version of 7 or 8.
