What can you guys possibly have that fills up 250GB of storage?

bwahahhaah.. I still have my Wolfenstein 3D box in perfect condition... along with quite a few others.. :D
 
Now with high-speed internet of over 10mb you can watch movie in HD with nice code in real time with DTS 5.1 enabled and so on. There's no real need to keep 300GB of p0rn on your HD if you ask me.

Searching for a movie/game/iso/appz on your pc using desktop search engine such as google let you find you stuff when you need it. I used to burn every single thing I possed and found out I was never able to find it in time when needed . (Ok I'm that a very well organised person, but I'm among the best I know considering the amount of thing I posses and add to my collection each day)

if you meant LEGAL STUFF, there it is:
- CAPTURING TV/MOVE IN HD w/h codec (even with codec it takes a lot of space)
-CAPTURING YOUR PICS

I say go get yourself a nice High Def setup and you,ll see the need for huge HardDrive trust me ;)
 
I have 750GB of storage drives (not including the 74GB Raptor) and it's still not nearly enough.

I have one drive dedicated to just FLAC audio (audio enthusiast, but can't really afford it...), one for just anime and other various vids, and another for backup of everything else (pictures, ISO's, updates, all useful progs (miranda, winRAR, EAC, this list is huge), documents, webwork, etc etc).

I could probably easily fill up multiple terrabytes of data by just having more videos and music. Personally for me data is more important than my graphics card.
 
music server = 1.4TB RAID5 7 x 200GB runnin CentOS... all my music cds ripped in VBR/320 CBR mp3, lots of live dj sets/trance/house/concert mixes... bunch of promo stuff i pick up from werk... sorted by genre, artist, album, the majority of which is properly tagged and formatted...

video server 1 = 2TB RAID5 4 x 500GB NAS... mainly seasons of tv shows... dvd backups of simpsons, family guy, futurama, smallville, coupling, SG1 & SGA, etc... plus tvrips of current seasons not yet out on dvd... I hate digging up dvds, and its easier to queue up a dozen files than swap dvds for those long weekend marathons...

video server 2 = 2TB RAID5 4 x 500GB NAS... tvrips of cartoons... high quality music vids from around the world... hdtv rips of anything interesting, football games, special tv shows, award shows, fashion shows, miss wutever pageants, friends requests... dvd backups of the few movies i have...

storage/file server = 1.2TB RAID5 4 x 320GB runnin CentOS... disc/program images... every document/paper i wrote since middle school, every paper my brother wrote/is writing... every digital picture/video ive ever taken w/my digicam or vid cam...

if u get free music promos/cds and have an hdtv capture card, storage space goes by real quick... several GB for an hours worth of video, plus space to cut out commercials and compress them or store them in high quality formats add up to a lot of storage space... if u tivo/capture every new episode of your favorite tv shows, it also adds up to a lot of space... in the digital era i can backup my most imporant data on various computers to ensure i never lose them... my most important pictures, documents, data are stored on cds & dvds separate thumb drives/hard drives and stored in a deposit box or somewhere in a safe off site...

and yeah for those of who fix other ppls computers, we need many GB of temp storage space while we fix/recover other ppls data... i just recovered 7 years of pictures/video of some guys son from a dying hard drive... data that can never be replaced... some ppl have to learn things the hard way...

i generally factor in new hard drives in my yearly necessity budget... right next to food, gas, and bills...

u can never have too many backups... since it only takes one accident to lose your data forever...

no pr0n here... there are better things to use my precious space for... my preciouss....

you do exactly what I do. except where you have 4 servers with 1.2-2TB each, I have 4 drives, at 300GB each. :(
 
I've got 1TB in my file server and it's about half-full so far.

Predominantly disk images, followed by movies, games, misc. stuff, and porn. All obtained/created legally I might add... except the porn.

I also use it to back up a customer's stuff when I'm fixing their computer.
 
I kinda thought the same. I had around 100gb of storage for a long time. Then I stumbled upon a few web sites where you can download DVD ISOs of entire concerts from tons of bands and next thing I knew I had to have every set of every band I dig. Next thing I know I have a 200gb, a 250gb and a 300gb and wanting more.

EDIT: Only 1GB of porn - I get a star?

Yep. Redundancy, redundancy, redundancy. I just have 3 copies of everything...1:1 backups on two different machines at home, and whenever possible an off-site archive at my parents' or in-laws' house.
 
I'm finding I'm going to need a couple of more 250GB drives to hold all my FLAC files. I currently have a 120GB filled, half a 250GB filled and I still have a lot of CDs left to rip.
 
I only keep my stuff.

Mpeg video doens't take long to fill up a drive.
Then I burn a few DVD's of the less interesting stuff and free
up that space.
 
i format my harddrive so much that all my stuff is on cds and dvds. i think in the future the next big thing will be mpegs/video files like what we have today, mp3s.
i have some things uploaded to my ftp space.
 
Just ordered 750GB more storage.. Found the realm of 720p and 1080p movies/vids... :D
 
I have Images of almost every Program CD I have ever bought. Along with High Quality TV Episodes like Every episode of Star Trek, etc..

TNG, Voyager, DS9 all take up around 100GB each or more of storage Enterprise and Orginal take up around 100 GB together.

Combine that with almost 2 TB of CD Images, and you start filling hard drive space up very quickly..
 
120 gig -music/ movies
120 gig music movies (movies not suitable for children or anyone under 21)
80 gig, was primary drive but will be for music
300 gig -programs/software/games, movies, iso files, anything that needs to be backed up

320 gig sata - when i get this, it will be my primary drive

i want to get another 320 gig to store more more more more!!!! its winter time. i refuse to go outside
 
Like the OP I never had much use for storage space until I started archiving TV on my computer. I currently have my 160gb storage drive almost full with my 60gb external packed to the gills and my 80gb OS/Apps drive is straining too. When I build I'm going with a 320gb drive which should alleviate some of the problem since I can use the 160gb in the external cage and keep a bunch of the shows I don't watch too often on there.

...of course, that will only clear up room for new stuff.
 
55GB - Anime (Ranma Complete Collection, Kenshin Complete Collection, nothing else)
1506GB - TV Shows (Growing at around 10GB/week from the shows I watch)
316GB - Movies
48GB - Music
70GB - Porn
104GB - Games (Images and patches for every game that is played at the LAN I host)
20GB - Pictures (Taken with my Digital Rebel)
Another 30GB or so of software(all the stuff I need after format, to include customized XP discs and drivers), audiobooks, etc

Total: 2149GB (~2.1TB)

For all this I have two 2TB fileservers. One has nothing but TV shows(Plus a backup of my important data), the other has everything else.

At the LAN I host, I typically have 1TB of outbound traffic per LAN(Every LAN, for the past 8 months). I'm expecting that to increase to 2TB per LAN since Terabyte2 will make it's first LAN at the end of the month(Built Terabyte2 last week). Maybe even more since Terabyte2 can output at 50MB/sec with 40 concurrent file downloads versus Terabyte would choke to 23MB/sec. That means the fileserver is pretty much continuously at maximum speed for the entire duration of the LAN.
 
Geez... I've got 500GB on my main PC and that's half full because I have so many games and programs installed.

Most of the space on my 1TB file server is from TV shows I record in HD and then encode with Xvid. At 350MB per 1 hour show, that eats up space fast.
