i just got my 15" mbp here recently and i'm looking for some good programs to get. maybe something for desktop customization, im clients, dvd ripping and other little program.

let me know some suggestion

Adium is the best IM client although iChat is pretty darn good too. I'd suggest you get VLC Media Player, NTFS 3G (allows to read/write drives that are formatted in NTFS), you don't really need a program for burning stuff. I'd recommend VMWare Fusion if you plan on using Windows as well it enables you to run Windows within OSX. ILife '09 is pretty cool, you might have gotten that free with your MacBook - iPhoto is pretty cool for picture organization although I prefer Picasa. Install Growl when you're prompted (I'm sure you will be that's pretty neat).

That's about all I can think of now. I'll add more when I think of them.

VLC blows chunks. Mplayer Extended is much better. VLC is like last resort..

I think there's a couple million of these list floating around but...

FF - duh
Adium - IM
Handbrake - ripping/encoding
Transmission - torrent
Quicksilver - app launcher and a lot more
Witch - pref pane that allows you to "alt tab" through individual windows
VLC
TextMate - coding/development
VirtualBox - free virtualization

There's plenty of other good software for OS X but these are the only ones I really use with any frequency.
