I was looking for something 750GB+ and SATA6GB/s and I've trusted WD in the past but the reviews on Newegg are quite scary, about as scary as my Amnesia experience last night.

I was looking at these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=22-136-768
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=22-136-767

The 750GB only has <10 reviews but the 1TB has 38 reviews and it still has 3/5 eggs. :(

I'm seeing "DOA" way too much in these reviews. Suggestions?

I work supporting hardware in a large business and we use all brands of drives that are of the same spec and rarely ever replace drives in desktops. In laptops we replace drives all the time because people are rough with them. Are people buying these drives and doing stupid shit with them to break them or has the quality really fallen that much?

Well, I can tell you this - within last year I've had:
Western Digital Black 1TB fail (1 out of 6),
Western Digital VR 300GB fail (1 out of 2) and then replacement fail again  so it's 2 out of 3
Western Digital 2TB (green) EADS fail (1 out of 6)
Hitachi 2TB 7K3000 (newest drive) fail within 2 weeks (1 out of 4)
Seagate LP 2TB (green) fail (1 out of 4).

So the story is - no matter what you buy keep good backup. There are no realiable drives - they all break

I just bought 4 WD10EALX's for a cheap NAS - interested to see how many make the cut. Just hope they fail right away if they're going to fail...
