its still less than the standard price which is like 189.

There are like 4 places selling it at this price, how is this a hot deal?

Sorry for wasting your time. Since you know so much about this, maybe you should post and share your knowledge with the rest of the community instead of bashing them. Just my thoughts.

Standard price is $169 since multiple merchants are selling it at that price.

not according to the price comparison. I wouldn't buy it cuz..... I want a really cheap one... can't use that much money right now.

man it's not that great of a deal but i think i might just have to thakn you and take it. don't want to say it's because i'm drunk. i definitely need a lot more storage but at the moment, 500gb seems to be the sweet spot. but that said, i need more than a single 500gb would offer, and dont want to have to have to run more than 3 drives. have a 500 and 200 currently. a 750 would play in nicely! thanks

This deal seems good to me. I don't want to say it is hot because I am drunk either though.

But really where are all the Storage deals lately? I have sceen segate drives that retail $100 more for the same space as a WD drive (because they are suposedly superior? yea right I AM ONE FOR ONE). I have sceen a few higher capacity drives that are $20 off retail (not worst buy prices that want $350! for a tb DRIVE)...

This deal sounds pretty damn good to me. Figure $300 for 1.5 TB x 500GB or 340 for 1.5Gb x 750 TB, and $600 (or worstbuy prices of $700) for 2TB x 1TB drives...

I for one would pay the extra $40 (less shipping) to do the same thing with 2 drives rather than 3, ESPECIALY when you consider the cost of backup drives!....
Deal looks good to me, not sure how hot it is but I ended up buying the 1TV WD drive for $260-something + tax($284) because I had waited 2 months for a Hard drive deal to come along.

Might as well bite while the deal is there in terms of storage....

I DON"T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT WORSTBUY DEALS WHERE YOU GOT YOUR 750 GB IDE DRIVES FOR $55. Stop with the nonsense my BB actualy Laughed at me for mentioning this they had the same drive for $300+ and wre like yea right! maybe you mean 300GB!! These threads should be titled

IGAGDBUCHH (I got a good deal but you can't ha ha).

Seriously if one more person posts a BB deal YYMV thread I'm going to puke all over everything at work......lick it all up and puke again.....

Take what you can get

It depends on what you plan on using these drives for. I would rather have the 3 500gb drives in a Raid5 array (1TB usable arrray) for $300 than 2 750GB drives in a Raid1 array (750gb usable array) for $340.

Is RAID safe at all? I've read many situations it's not good/not recommended for video production, I have about 6 x 250gb hard drives and I'm debating whether or not to RAID them or sell them and get a 750gb or 1 tb drive. I've tried a RAID-0 on this hard drive enclosure I had that had this jumper to enable it, it seems to be fine, but chooses to show up on my desktop whenever it feels like to (probably an independent problem of the enclosure and compatible drive). Back to what I've read about RAID not being too reliant on video production, I believe it was referring to how it's impossible to recover data through RAID vs. not-raid (a single drive). You guys have thoughts on this?

Sweet prices are starting to dop a tad. ZZF has had this drive for $170 shipped for a few weeks now. I would say a warm deal, But when prices drop a tad more I will be ready to buy

only risk is with raid0. you get the performance of striping, but there's no mirroring. so if any one single drive in the array dies, you lose all your data. different raid levels work in different ways.

which raid do you personally recommend?

Raid 5.
but that requires an extra drive just for it to work.
but it is the safest, within reasonable price range.

yes, raid5 is most feasible for what you're looking for. it offers speed improvements as well as redundancy in case of data loss.

raid0 is purely for speed, and is the cheapest to implement. I've personally used raid0 many times, although only for my primary partition.

the "problem" with raid5 is that it "only" allows for one drive failure. if you can't get another drive in and restore the array, and another drive drops, you'll lose data. raid6 allows for up to 2 drives to go down. but raid6 isn't as common, and good controllers are more expensive.

if you can just keep a drive as backup to bring in when one drops, raid5 will be perfect for you. the only real risk is another drive dropping while it's rebuilding onto the new drive.

ZipZoomFly dropped down to $163.90 shipped
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10005580

I heard their packaging is quite good for hard drives.

Buy.com has this, supposedly , "not OEM" for $169.99, and you can GC it to make it down to $159.99...i guess. (see first post)

*Price Comparison chart is updated in the first post, a few stores dropped a few bucks, but ZZF remains the lowest.

wish someone would have a thanksgiving/BF deal on this drive or one of the new Seagate drives

Only problem is, in order to get free shipping now, you have to use Paypal, and I think that ends the 31st.

Looks as though free shipping may be going bye-bye at ZZF soon. :(

wonder when this drive will hit $150 or less? ZZF needs to tweek there new look on their site too. I was looking at hard drives and when you get to the bottom you cant go to the next page unless you scroll all the way back to the top. I have never liked the way their site is setup, but do like the free shipping; hope they dont get rid of it, but Im sure they lose lots of money doing the free shipping. will probably do just as newegg has done.

So long as they don't start raping on shipping via fedex to oh, TWICE what it is for UPS.

I think that has to do with UPS using their power to exclude other forms of shipping from certain other retailers. Brown blows.

it also depends on who they choose for their main carrier. Newegg chose UPS thats why their rates are a little cheaper using ups over fedex. I myself prefer Fedex and used to love it when Newegg used them as a main carrier. when I ship packages Fedex is usually slightly cheaper, but being that these guys shipp in mass quantities, maybe UPS offers a better rate. not sure.

I did also notice that zipzoom fly does only ship for free now when you use paypal as someone alreadt mentioned. thats a scary sign. Maybe since everyone keeps raising their rates its just to hard to ship for free. I guess we will just have to see what happens.

still waiting for the prices on the drives to drop a touch more before I bite. still a good price almost 0.20 per gig
