Anybody know the story on these? Doesn't seem like they were just released as I found a Hot Deals post about them back in September. Just wondering what the deal is with the odd capacity...

I saw this in a Frys ad back then (in Septemberish) and thought it was typo. I eneded up getting one thinking it might end up as a collectors item or something.

It is indeed based on a Chinese lucky number thing.

The thing thats kinda silly about them is that they are basically a 1TB WD10EADS with an intentionally reduced capacity.

Yes, I've read these are short stroked or had some defects on the ends of the platters.

Glad I'm not the only one. Saw these in a Fry's ad in the paper this morning and did a triple take. I've never seen a drive of this size before. Are these more common in Asia?
