i'd buy it but my $60 a month comcast internet capps me at 250gb a month. this drive would go out of style by the time i could fill it.

see what i did there? i putting WD up againt comcast. hopefully WD will bitchslap them now all because of me. sales lost are sales lost.

Stop using comcast. Even though you're only 1 user. client lost is client lost. :D

A note for those running servers, such as WHS boxes - WD Green drives are 2.8-3.7 watts at idle which are about 1/3 of typical 7200rpm drives.

Some people live in places where they have no choice. It's either Comcast or DSL. I used to live in a place like that.

Comcast is doubling my speed next week, i said thats great, are doubling my DL cap as well,

There was dead silence on the phone for about 20 secs...

250gigs a month? That's not enough? Do you download a ton of Bluray's or something?

no thats not the point. 250gb is usually plenty. but what about my heavy-flow months? im supposed to be punished for bleeding all over the floor? fuck that. so i take my account to 250gb every month on purpose. i delete most of the stuff since i only have so much space... i just hate comcast for their practices, and this is my legal way of fighting back.

this is the only part i feel bad about-
"The internet called, they need your space back. thx "

:D

seems shortsighted to needlessly download to max your cap...in order to protest the cap.
all that does is compel companies to impose (and eventually lower) bandwidth caps.

but do whatever makes sense to you
I've got a 550 MB/s dl rate with no cap so I'm not complaining :D

So you have a 4.4 Gigabit connection at your residence and can take advantage of it? You must have quite the RAID and network setup.

(balderdash!)

Comcast is Comcraptic :( I'm glad I don't have them anymore.

Anyway, about the HDD, what a premium you pay for 2 TB. 1.5 TB HDDs are less than half the price of this 2 TB one. Ouch.

Even though mope54 meant 576 Mbps, damn, that's still fast. Over 5x Fast Ethernet speed, which is over half of Gigabit Ethernet speed.

no, it doesnt. if we all just stay complacent and allow the isp's to leave the caps on, as if everything is peachy, then change will never happen. if everyone maxes thier shit every month it will show the isp's they need to do something, and whatever they would do it would not be limiting the caps even more.

besides, 250gb doesnt even saturate a quarter of the bandwidth they SELL me. what i pay for is 12mb down and 2mb up, and if you let that run at full speed for a month, you will see just how bad a 250gb cap really is.

That would seem to be contradicted by the fact they implemented the caps in the first place...they didn't impose caps because people weren't using enough bandwidth :D

But you're right, if people increase their consumption habits then that would show the isp's they need to do "something." I'm not an economist, but it seems to me that doing "something" in response to increased demand would most likely include higher costs to the consumer.

Your theory is that if everyone uses the maximum amount of a limited and expensive to expand resource, they will respond by removing caps and allowing people to use even more of it?

If everyone maxed out the cap, they will LOWER THE CAP. Thats why its there: to limit usage so they don't run out of bandwidth. If they start running out they won't allow people to use more so they run out faster, and they don't just pull random numbers out of a hat for maximum downloads.

no, the caps are there, where they are at, because 90% of people use less then 250gb, and just a few were using WAY more.

i understand why they implemented caps. on cable internet, you almost have to otherwise a few people can ruin it for the rest. my problem is prices DID go up because of the cap. before, $60 a month for unlimited internet. now, its $60 a month for LIMITED internet. that to me just means im paying more for the same product.

if everyone pushes that 250gb limit, they will have to increase it. and mark my words if they even try to raise their already outlandish $60 monthly bill, people will go back to dialup.

ps- another problem i have with the caps is the threat to suspend service if you go over the limit. its not "we will throttle you back, dont worry" it's more like "if you do it just one more time, we will ban you from our service for at least a year, and btw this whole time we have been talking you have been recorded and an officer of the law will review this conversation. thank you, criminal, for your business, your bill is due in 3 days btw". thats comcast at its best (and dont think im exaggerating, im not)

damn dude, what are you downloading...kiddy porn?

I didn't assume you were downloading illegal content, but the only reason police would get involved would be kiddy porn.

well, you asked if i was downloading kidde porn, thats why i assumed you assumed it;)

but comcast has a legal department. when you go over your limit, this is the department you talk to- regardless of what you downloaded. i don think i was actually talking to a cop, but they want you to think that. trust me, if you had to talk to this department, you would see what im sayin. i found it cute, because i thought they were just posers, but i can see what theyre trying to do (scare the shit out of people). problem in my case is, i know THEY ARE MY servant. i pay them, not the other way around. the threats and suspensions are a joke to me.
