I wanted to know WD's policy on transferring warranties. I am considering buying a new used hard drive and I want to know if WD will help me out if it died in 4 years but was still under warranty.
Any input?

IIRC, the warranty on WD drives is based on manufactured date. So the number of previous owners should be irrelevant. I can't remember RMAing a drive and being asked for proof of purchase. Having said that, I believe there may be a clause in the RMA TOS stating something pertaining to this.

yes, warranty on harddrives is attached to the drive, not the owner (the way warranty OUGHT to be). The serial number of a drive can be checked for the drive's warranty status at www.wdc.com
So if the seller gives you the serial, you can check the status and know that you can RMA it, in case stuff doesn't work out. I never understood the fact that my VC warranty goes down the drain when I sell it. Pretty much says that the manufacturer doesn't believe in their product.
