Well, that's a heck of a lot better than I received 'em... maybe they did change the guy after a lot of complaints. Anyway, below is how I got it and yes, it was really wrapped like that. Take it as you want; I'm just posting my experience, since folks were interested. Glad to see they probably fixed it.

Also, thanks for the head's up on Photobucket! :D

Mine came just like this too. I could understand if they used the bubble wrap that uses the really large bubbles since that is better to pack large items with. I haven't had time to fire up the drive and make sure that it works yet though.

I guess Im better off waiting for rebate offers :(

Hopefully I can get a 160GB+ sata HD for under $100 that way. Hmm... I will check. Maybe there already is such a deal around. I have it difficult because Im trying to build a 2.0GHz+ PC for under $600, but Im afraid of building it myself because if I break a component, its gonna sting. So I end up paying $60-$80 extra to a PC shop to build it for me. Which cuts into my budget.

place separate orders, i don't think it expires.

I hope not. I can't use it until Friday. And I realized that the 320GB I got last Friday will be full by Wednesday :)

Please elaborate on the whiny noise. If it's true, then I'm getting a 250GB Seagate instead.

Well it's this noticable (at least to me cause I like to build silent pc) whiny noise. I can't describe it any further. I may have a bad sample though cause ppl on the other boards said they have a nice silent drive. I'm gonna do an rma exchange.

Anybody else getting this annoying whiny noise from their drives like me?

Nope. Mine's the quietest drive I've ever owned. My 80mm fans are MUCH louder than the drive they're cooling.

dead deal??? $160 on website and $160 when added to cart...

Damn. I was so looking forward to buying another friday.

Edit: It looks like the coupon still works. So it's only $4 more expensive than the original nice deal.

Even with the below par packing, all of my drives are up and running smooth. They are sooooo quiet; almost competely silent, even when active.

Fedex fubarred yesterday when they were attempting to deliver mine--I gave em a ring. Apparently there was some confusion about where I lived, even though the address was right :p. Anyhow, hopefully I'll get mine today.

omg monarch computer sent the package through 2Day service when i choose the ground option at check out.

:D

nice, I guess they're doing what zipzoomfly has been doing, offering free 2nd day to most products

Ordered one from newegg for $175, what a bargain! :(
I hope there's less chance of it getting damaged due to inadequate packaging material.

Just got my two drives from Monarch - WELL packaged unlike what I've been hearing from others. The two drives were separated by two layers of bubble wrap and then surrounded by packing nuts.

For $135 EACH, it can't be beat.

Currently $155 before the $16 off coupon ( SGJE-30CCHA ).

Grand total is still $139 shipped, not bad if you ask me :)

man last night the price was 150 and there was a 20 dollars off coupon, making it 130. And this sweet drive carries 3 years of warranty, unlike retail versions which only carry 1 year.

i cant decide between this or the SATA II 250gb on newegg!!!! so HARD!! i want to replace my hitachi which is messing up on me. i just use it for data though...... so maybe the 320 then?

Thanks TJ! Saved me 32 bucks!

150439 Western Digital 320GB SATA 8MB Cache 7200RPM (WD3200JD) 2 $155.00 $310.00
Warranty: 800011 - Manufacturer Direct Warranty from MFG Dat
Coupon - SGJE-30CCHA: ($32.00)
Shipping: Federal Express Ground - Five (5) to Seven (7) Day: $0.00
Sales Tax: $0.00
Total: $278.00

Yes, but if you look at their Desktop DriveMarks on the next page, they show the WD3200JD falling behind the Maxtor MaxLine III in their application level tests, with a typical deficit of around 10%. WD's latest is a certainly noticeable 25% behind the MLIII in SR's bootup test.

The synthetic benchmarks do give a good prediction of the drive's performance in media transfer work, and many of the people looking for a drive of this size are looking for supplemental media storage.

shweet I saved the quote with the coupon... it is 119 saved!

hahaha but I have no money to buy it anyways :D
