Does anybody have a kill-a-watt and a Netgear FS105 switch? and if you do how many watts does the unit take idle and under network load?

I would really appreciate this.

Just to make this public knowledge.

I bought the netgear gs105 instead and they run at 5 Watts idle and 6 Watts under 7MB/s load.

They really shouldn't be pulling that many watts when idle, even though it is marketed as green I don't see it.

5 watts is a very small load, I doubt there is anything available that could use less.

I forgot the exact number but a PC Engines board, with WiFI consumes IIRC 6 watts while in use.

If an x86 pc can consume 6 watts (or was it 8), a switch "should" consume way less.

But, someone run the kwh/year numbers and remind me why it doesn't matter.

actually using the alix as the pfsense firewall and router, using this switch for the rest of network. Looks like the netgear fs105 uses 1.5W and the trendnet green switches use 2W.
