Watching The NFL With Microsoft's HoloLens

Microsoft, you best take...my...fuckin'...money.

The amount of data for this might be really really big and if this needs Internet the bandwidth is going through the roof.

How many holo lenses were there 5 or 6 that also is going to limit the wifi bandwidth if you don't use wired internet.

I can see the demo being very bullish about this product sadly the technology behind driving this might not be able to cope with such demand ....

But are you really? I don't care for any sport, and that still looked pretty cool.

Then again, so did Watch Dogs at E3.

I mean honestly? I looks cool for about an hour like 3dtv. After that, I really don't want to wear dumb crap on my head just to watch tv.

My kids on the other hand are huge into minecraft and I suspect this will end up as the dad of the year christmas gift. :D But for regular TV? meh.

I feel ya on the 3dtv angle. It needs some better content to keep me interested... none of that really seems to be worth the hassle. I'm 37/4 kids and barely get to watch as it is.

They just show a black dude breaking into someone's house? WFT MS? LOL!

Yeah, I can't see this being a party thing like they show it. Do you really want to talk to your friends while they are wearing that?

Could you even take anything they said serious with a VR headset on, I know I couldn't, what if you just streamed porn to yours while they are all watching the game.

Hey, it worked out well for 3D didn't it?

I don't think people will want to interact while watching sports or movies, how bout a voice activated DVR. The full wall TV looks awesome and the panning thing, cool.

Not so much for games but seems to be going strong for movies these days.

I did not know we were talking about going to the cinema. I thought we were talking about sitting in our living rooms.

Not certain I would call only large theaters, only on 1 screen and only certain movies showing in 3d going strong...I don't even remember the last movie they even advertised in 3d.

This is the best way to ruin Sundays. Can't even sit back and go brain dead while I watch football anymore.

Information overload...

At lot of these big visual effects block busters make an big chunk of their money on those 3D screens. Just about every major visual effects block buster for years now has been in 3D and yes, it's mentioned at the end of the trailer.

Yeah, at least 1/2 of the screens at my local 12 screen theater are 3D ready. And there is normally 2 or 3 3D movies playing a week.

WOW those CGI images, which are clearly not representative of what I would actually see, really make me want to throw my hard earned money at them.

All this optical technology is a scam. Its more or less stockholder fodder... "Hey guys check out the cool shit we are making, its pretty cool huh? You should invest with us and you can make money and be cool!"

There is a fundamental issue with optical tech like this, each and every human eye is a different and unique snowflake. Need proof? Go ask the biometrics people who want to use eye scans instead of fingerprints. Not only are our eyes physically different, the brain which interprets the information the eyes see it just as unique. Its why 3D never caught on in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 00s, and its why stuff like this won't catch on. It may look amazing to the creators and testers, but once it hits the masses people are just going to complain.

Now that im thinking about it, isn't this the exact reason why companies like microsoft say they don't like producing games and software for PC? Too many variables... something about the hardware itself being different... where as a console its locked down and stuff just works... Customer support costs too high blah blah blah... QUICK everything is spinning... better call O'reilly to sort this out!

Until they can create a true 3D image in real space, not the 2fake3d which relies on tricking the human eye into thinking flat surface has depth to it, optical tech will remain a heaping steaming pile which will only attract investor flies.

Once hololens can do that I would be all over it. I'll love that for fantasy, then once my fantasy team and the Chargers are eliminated from the playoffs then I'll want nothing to do with all that info til next season lol

Am I the only fan of just a 6 pack to enjoy the game?

The only sports i enjoy are football you know the one you kick with your fit not pansy sports. Rugby is a real mans game same as cricket anericans just butchered these sports.

Different strokes guy. Football is a brutal sport. In fact, professional teams are hiring rugby players to teach how to tackle without using their heads. I love football, pure and simple. Monday through Saturday, I give to the family, Sunday is Dads.

Honestly, it looks like Madden applied to a real time game.

I don't want little tiny Russell Wilson on my coffee table.

I really don't want to see every play and stat, and glowing circles pointing out the receiver.

The giant screen thing was cool though.

This is just a way to fuck up football, no thanks.

Sure you can, you just don't buy/use this product, continue to be brain dead :)

I am curious though when they showed the screen expanding though, where does all the extra information come from? Surely they don't gut 8/9ths of what the camera man takes and only send the middle 1/9th to the home user.

And people with no eyes can't see so why the fuck are we still making videos and displays. What about the blind? :p Correct a very small percent of people that have two working eyes might have trouble but for the rest it will work just fine. Everyone that has used one of these as only said great things about them and stated they work exactly as advertised. Personally I have not seen or heard a single negative comment made about the experience.

Imagine the advertising potential during the commercials.
"Hey would you like some Doritos? Checkout that cheesy flavor as I hold it up in front of your face. I'll just set the bag on your end table here. If you would like to order a bag of Doritos with Amazon's new and exciting one day delivery service say 'Order Doritos now!'"

"Would you like the great taste of a bud light? Here take this! Here, grab this bud light out of my hand! With more water on the glass, you know it's refreshing. Go grab your bud light and enjoy the game right!"

Call me they have good holoporn.

I'm an old school classic nerd... meaning I suck at (and dont' care for) pretty much any sport that exists.

I think the closest I've ever been to being excited about a sports themed thing on TV was the ultimate robot fighting they had going on recently. Lots of destruction/fire/robots :)

ditto all the way,

I'm not a big sports fan and I TRIED. I really did, but I just couldn't force myself to care.

Porn on the other hand...

So the players just magically appear in the room and nothing else filmed such as the arena, other spectators etc. won't show? Not very likely. It's marketing hype.

Could be different camera feeds overlapping. They do have more that just one camera pointed at the field. Could take one of two feeds that are zoomed out some and project those as the background while leaving the main feed in the center. You normally see them change between different feeds during a game, not that unreasonable to think they have one zoomed in and one zoomed out so that if they needed to do an instant replay they could see everything around the play and not just the zoomed in version. Just a thought, might be 100% wrong.

microsoft, release holographic porn and watch sales skyrocket.

One step closer to that crappy Bruce Willis movie where everybody using robotic avatars so they can see attractive versions of the other person (and vice versa) or some one else completely.

Or Demolition Man, where they put on headsets and have virtual sex

It had to be the Seahawks.....sigh..... because they're the home team of Microsoft's HQ. And, of course, it had to feature their hated rivals, the 49ers. Where is the pop up of your friend trash talking that last play in 3D?
