ATT will now have the 3GS for $49 with 2 year activation and anyone that got a iPhone 3GS between Dec 7 2010 to Jan 5 2011 will get $50 back on their bill.

So tempting if only I knew ATT was more reliable in my area.

IMO, AT&T is only doing this to keep down the amount of potential Veriphone buyers.

Seems pretty certain that Verizon is getting the iPhone 4 no later than the end of February.

This is exactly right. ATT is essentially confirming the existence of a Verizon iPhone with sales like this. Trying to lock people into contract.

I don't really see this as a great deal; the real financial burden of an iPhone is the AT&T contract, not so much the hardware (especially since it's been subsidized).
