WARNING - 48xx Series and HDTV's

Actually ATI seems to have buggy drivers for DX10 display modes in general. I can't run games in a DX10 mode at all on my set for interlaced resolutions since I dont have 1080p. I am outputting to a 55" CRT HDTV set via component video, and my set can only display 1080i not 1080p. So what happens is when I go in to a game in DX10 mode any resolution that gets put in to a 1920x1080i timing and interlaced, I cant see that resolution at all. that includes 1024x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024 and up. The only resolutions selectable are 1280x720p and below. Since my HDTV down res 720p to 480p it really looks incredibly shitty.

Reading around it also seems like people outputing to 1080p sets in DX10 games have to try multiple 1080 resolutions. One will be 1080i 30, one will be 1080i 24 and one will be 1080p 60. Even though they select one that they say says 1080p it puts it in to a 1080i mode.

Here is one of the many threads I posted on my side of the issue:
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1331756

Honestly I have been tempted to get a 1080p LCD or Plasma set but my CRT has great color and no motion blur, but with it's age I know finer details arent as good as they used to be so I am really torn lol

This is just a warning to all those who game on 1920x1080p LCD's and Plasma's...do not, I repeat do not, buy an ATI card at this point. I've been sitting with a 4870x2 and waiting patiently for a fix...8.9's, 8.10's, and 8.11 beta's have come along with no resolution to the issue that seems to plague all users of 48xx cards and HDTV's used as monitors.

I have my Samsung A550 hooked up via HDMI and am completely unable to play a single DX10 game without the resolution screwing up and under scanning causing a small blurry image which results in a less than desirable experience. DX9 titles play perfectly without issue...but this is a problem that is only going to get worse as new games are released.

I just wanted to post a warning to anyone who is either considering a new video card purchase or a new monitor purchase to beware and stay away from ATI. I have been told this is a "known issue" but not seeing a fix now for 2+ months makes me think they are unwilling or unable to fix it.

Really? I had an A530 with my 4870 and it worked fine 0.0
Crysis at first was a bit weird, but setting the rez manually seemed to work for me while having scaling off in CCC

The fix didn't work for me, I still have 1080i or 24hz displayed with severe underscanning when I'm using DX10 in games. I will edit the first post to be more general but it seems the problem still exists.

Again I would say this is a problem with my display if it didn't work perfectly fine in DX9/2d and my GTX 280 has absolutely no issue in any game.

obviously your TV sucks and thats the problem, as post #16 points out having no problem.
You can't warn all men against women just because your girlfriend dumped you, get a life.

Hey just get a life,

While this is on topic, I have a better idea stop posting flame. Unless you have something constructive to say go have a cup of STFU.

By the by, has anyone heard if there is a resolution to this issue yet?

LOL at the people getting pissed off in this thread. Did the OP insult your mother? :/

Anyhow, I'm the only person in this thread with the same TV as the OP, and I saw exactly what he saw. Yes, you can fix the under scan issue in 2d mode, very easily. But, for some reason, when you go to 3d mode (in most games, not all), the ATI driver forces 24hz. You can select 60hz all you want. But nothing changes.

ATI's drivers are basically setup to give TV's special treatment. This wouldn't be an issue if the driver gave you some configuration options, instead of forced 24hz. But, apparently, this will only affect certain televisions..

I already know I'm not keeping my 4870. One thing the OP might dry is using a DVI to YPbBr (component) cable. That might allow you to sidestep the 24hz issue...maybe. (http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10235&cs_id=1023504&p_id=2508&seq=1&format=2)

Misleading title thread.

I'm playing at 1080p24 with my 4870x2 on a plasma Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-111FD w/o any problems. And PQ is unbelievable with probably one of the best display on the market right now. :)

I don't know about HDMI issues but I have no problems with hooking up my 4870x2 to my Samsung 37" 1080p HDTV via a DVI connector.

OTOH my laptop will not drive the TV via VGA or DVI but it will with a DVI-component adapter, it looks kinda nasty and the frame rate sucks for gaming, I don't think my laptop has the balls to drive that many pixels.

It's actually not misleading since I had the same problem before the quick fix....

Btw are you using Directx 10? Have fun playing at 24hz.

I'm experiencing a similar issue with my 4850 and 720p. Half-Life 2 and Fallout 3 work fine, but Crysis Warhead is underscanning the picture and has a washed out appearance on my Pioneer 5010.

I'll try some of the solutions posted here when I get home later and report back. I wanted to bump the thread though to let people know the problem doesn't just occur with 1080i/p resolutions.

Has anyone tried using a utility like PowerStrip to disable unwanted resolutions/refresh rate combos?

The latest hotfix drivers solved everything for me, adding the resolutions in the catalyst control center now works and I can play dx10 games in full 1080p. Happy days

After using the CCC to forcefully add 720p@60Hz and then adjusting the underscan for that mode, the problem went away.

Maybe time to edit the topic before too many newbies get all excited about this.

Bumping an old thread but still a small problem nonetheless.

I can get every DX10 games working correctly with the quickfix except for Crysis?

Anyone else having this issue still with Crysis? Stalker, Bioshock etc etc etc works great with the fix but not Crysis.

Anyone know how to send AMD/ATi a support ticket? I can't find it on their site, thanks.

bumping an old thread, sorry but I figured I'd ask. I tried the things mentioned but I still get the issue. I have a Samsung LN40A650. Could someone explain it step by step to the very end, because everything in this thread isn't working :( I'm really wanting to fully unleash this 4870x2!
