No frame gen on launch, no ray tracing features, no HDR support on PC, no option to enable crossplay for PvP modes, no option for friendly fire in PvE modes, no pre-loading on PC, uses EAC for anti-cheat, class limits in multiplayer...

Ugh, swing and a miss.

Most of those I could care less about. But I hear single player is 8-10 hours long. So anything that makes the multiplayer modes less appealing is definitely a ding.

I haven't played Darktide. I might be more interested in that, since it's been out awhile and patched with updates, etc... maybe wait for this game to be updated.

Q: Is the game compatible with wide screens?
A: Wide screen support is planned. While it won't be available right at launch, we're working on implementing it by the end of September.

What.The.F?
Grr... Does this mean I'll have to play it at 16:9 on my 32:9 ultrawide until they bring out a patch?

No frame gen and ray tracing doesn't bother me as that usually means it will run better for more people. PvP issues, eh time will tell but not super encouraging.

Frame gen does help it run better for more people. It's a glaringly bad omission.

The bigger issue is no ultrawide support for 21:9 monitors.

That can't be right. This game doesn't support the very popular 3440 X 1440 resolution? Will there be black bars on either side then?

And no HDR? Come on don't diss us OLED monitor peeps.

This is exactly why people should NEVER pre-order games. I'll wait this one out and read real people's reviews first.

Game looks like a great way to blow off steam or kill a few hours with a friend. The graphics are outstanding even without ray tracing.

But i am getting so tired of unfinished game launches. There's simply too much for developers to do and too strict of a schedule to keep for releases before the money dries up. 21:9 screen support is pretty important nowadays

Seems like ray tracing will not come in the future either. Not the end of the world. No wide screen support is an odd one though.

People started calling aspect ratios wider than 16:9 "widescreen" for some reason instead of ultrawide (21:9) and superwide (32:9). It really annoys the shit out of me.

It only has an 8 hour SP campaign and they want USD $99 for the Gold edition?! GTFO of here!

Seems like it is mostly multiplayer content. I guess this game is like Call of Duty, a mix of a proper campaign and multiplayer mode?

This is what the Gold Edition Seasons pass comes with:

PvE missions - are those extra story missions, like an expansion pack or just basic missions? My guess is it is just maps with bots rather than a story proper expansion. But ultra wide support is coming, but why is that not on release? And I am not sure why this information is not on the Steam page. I am not sure why this info is always so hard to find for games. Valve needs stricter standards to see what is included in what version of the game on the store page.

The season pass is only the skins. All the content updates are free. If you include the uncropped image you would see that. PvE missions are referring to the PvE multiplayer mode called Operations.

I mean, to be fair:

"Wide" is a relative term. there is no scientific definition of how much of anything equals "undeniably wide".

"Wide" just means "a greater beadth compared to..." So a "Wide Screen" is a screen that is "WidER" than average.

And the average screen is a 16:9 ratio... and it's not a small majority, it's like 90% of screens on earth are 16:9.

So anything wider than 16:9 is comparably wide and calling 16:9 "Wide" is then begging the question: Wider than WHAT? we all know 4:3 is the answer, but 4:3 is technically wider than a 1:1, so is it a WIDE screen?

So what I've seen of the gameplay on streams is looking pretty good. At one point during the campaign you're fighting off hundreds of nids and in the background across the valley you see hundreds more running across the land.

I think its cpu intensive.

How can they give the game a 9, with the known issues posted here a page ago?

No ultrawide monitor support for this game? It's 2024, not 2014. That's unacceptable. So will I see big black bars on either side of my monitor playing this game. WTF.

No HDR? Seriously?

Campaign is only 8 to 10 hours. And they want full price for this game.

You say we know it's always been relative to 4:3, and yet you go on a pedantic rant before saying it.

Sorry for being offtopic because its pc version. Ok i played the game on xbox sx,graphics is gorgeous + smooth performance 50-60 fps :p.+ Very like combat. Good title.Liked more than SW Outlaws :)

I might wait to play it until UW support is actually added unless someone figures it out before them.

Yeah I'll hold off for now, or if anyone here gets the game, please let us know if the game works on ultrawide monitors.

Just surprised none of these YouTuber's don't have ultrawide displays and just didn't mention such a massive detail left out of the game. That's a big friggin deal not to mention in a YouTube review of a triple A game release.

Ultrawide users only represent around 4% of the Steam userbase. It's a niche product and is more of pain to get working sometimes than just using a 16:9 monitor. It's really not hard to support wider ARs, though. I think the issue is many things like UI elements being hardcoded in the game. They figured out UI scaling and fixed vertical FOV long ago, I don't know why they can't figure out X- and Y- coordinates.

I hope they use Hor+/Vert- instead of the super close FOV face blasting Hor-/Vert+.

This is 2024, not 2014. Ultrawide support is a standard today, and has been in games for a good 5+ years.

Every new game I've bought in the past 5 to 7 years has natively supported ultrawide. No problem right out of the box, band new releases and they supported 3440 X 1440 res no problem.

I'm just shocked a big game release like this doesn't have that support baked in already.

Ja, I just thought about how vertical FOV should be fixed and how that has been figured out, and added it to my post just before you posted.
Whenever a dev does it the wrong way, I really struggle to not have motion sickness & claustrophobia-like feelings.

Kind of disappointed in these big money YouTuber's staying quiet about this game lacking ultrawide support. Like these YouTube guys all have top of the line best of the best gaming rigs, and I bet a lot of them have high-end OLED ultrawide monitors, so why are they quiet on such a big feature missing from a modern game release? Because these are "paid" reviews for early access?
