Why is it the smallest desktop LCD that can do 1600x1200 is 20 inches?!!

...while I have seen laptops that have 15" LCDs that can do 1600x1200 (high end Dell Laditudes)...

Is it a marketing ploy, or just high cost? (15-17" @ 1600x1200 the dot pitch is damn small)

I have seen a few 19" that do 1600x1200.

Yeah, it sucks that 15-18" don't do 1600x1200.
The technology is there... look at laptop screens.

I don't know why it is not happening.

most people can not see or don't want to read text that small

Screen size wise:
15" LCD == 17" CRT
17" LCD == 19" CRT

A lot of 17" CRT do 1600x1200, and almost all 19" CRT do 1600x1200.

A lot of 17" CRT do 1600x1200, and almost all 19" CRT do 1600x1200.

Most 17" CRTs are 16" viewable and 19" CRTs are 18" viewable.

Then it makes my point even stronger ;)

(Btw, are you like the other guy who got a 6800 gt in vancouver? lol)

Just another reason to stick with a good CRT like my FP912SB....not to mention that you are basicly forced into using the native resolution. Lets say the native is 1600x1200, and your system is 2 years old. What happends when you wanna play a newer game or game demo and the only way you can is to go below native? Thats right folks, you have to endure the lower quality non-native resolutions! Of course if you can buy a 20 inch LCD you can afford the latest and greatest, so I guess my point is moot.

Well, if there existed an 15-17" LCD that can do 1600x1200, I would buy 2 for work, but keep my CRT at home for game ;)

I'm a CRT fan boy, but LCDs would save me a lot of desk space.
