On my computer running w10 home, I enabled the outbound part of the windows firewall - block all outbound traffic not specified in a rule.

I created 2 custom rules:
1. allow all for program path svchost, apply to service wupdate
2. allow all for program path svchost, apply to service bits
In this configuration windows update is blocked.

If I create rule:
3. allow all for program path svchost, apply to all services -- it still doesn't work.
3.b allow all for program path svchost, apply to all programs and services -- then it works.

I don't want svchost running around unchecked, and would prefer the rule tied to a service; what am I missing?

Hey you just solved a major issue!

Why is everyone so hell bent on Windows 7. Windows 8.1 with classic shell works as well if not better.

I would move to Windows 10 if it wasnt such a bad prospect. I really wanted it to be my next OS after I couldnt stomach Windows 8.

But Win 10 is a horrific OS compared to Windows 7.
Windows 7 looks better and is better/easier to use than Windows 10.
And the information stealing can be stopped.
I spend a lot of time using Windows, I dont want a worse experience or to have to worry about where my data ends up.

Sorry op, just answering his question.
