I have a few questions about vSphere Replication.

Our current environment consists of 3 sets of VM servers under 1 vSphere Instance (our license is 6CPU Standard) and is setup like this:

Office:
1x E3-1230v2/32GB ram in our office
-connected to the datacenter via 10Mb connection IPSEC VPN to...
Datacenter:
2x 2x-X5650/72GB ram in our data center
-connected to DR via inter-dc link to...
DR Datacenter
1x E3-1230v2/32GB in our DR datacenter

There is enough ram in the DR machine to handle the VM's that need to be protected. I have the vCenter server, vSphere Replication Appliance on the Datacenter VM's. I have it currently replicating the servers to the DR but I don't think I have it set up right. Where should the replication appliance VM's reside? If the main DC goes down, how to I bring up the replicated ones? I also want to set up replication on one of the office VM's to the DC and the DR.

Unfortunately I don't have the capital to put in to bring a pro in for this, but I know [H] has some experts :)

I think there needs to be a virtual replication appliance on each physical node.

You need a vSphere Replication Appliance at both sites, not one per node.

So it's a VLAN Trunk? If so..not a big deal, saves you the time to have to re-ip...BUT..you still have to setup the gatway for those machines when/if they come up from a real disaster.

Another option is to forego vSphere replication since EQL has it built in and repurpose one of the PS4000s to the DR site and do Array Based Replication using the EQL VSM. Poor mans DR I call it since it integrates in vCenter via a Plugin.

Yeah, our DR is a manual process anyways :) I have a pfSense VM connected to the DR's outside connection.

Thanks for the help!
