Vista 64bit Ultimate USB Issues

Last thread disappeared after the forum went down

In Vista 64bit, if i plug any USB storage type device into it it hard freezes the machine.
like an iPod , usb stick, hard drive etc.
It will bring up the "what'ca wanna do" window, but if i access it. boom

Wasn't happening in Vista 32it
Have an MSI K9A Platinum board (ati chipset)

Any idea's?

Hmm. I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate. I have a thumb drive for ReadyBoost & an iPod connected without any issues. Is Vista & all drivers up to date?

yea all drivers up to date
only happening in 64bit though
32bit, this didn't occur

well the only drivers i can put on for the chipset are the southbridge drivers which i've done.
just discovered theres an updated driver out.
gonna install that and see what happens

ok god damn this anyway
did a full reinstall,
installed chipset drivers
ran external drives fine for a day.....then bam
same thing again
this is annoying

or suggestions?
maybe i'll just buy a core2 and a new mainboard
