Video out to a CRT

My vidcard is a 6800GTOC and my tv is a SD JVC 32" CRT. Whenever I play a video file (avi, mpeg or divx) all I get is a black screen in media player. I'm using the svideo out. Any suggestions?

Make sure you are not setup for multi-monitor. This setting varies from video card to video card, however what you want is to be able to see the windows desktop cloned on the TV screen. Also do not run a really high res either with a SD TV
 
The res you'll want to be running is 640x480, 800x600, or 1024x768. Whichever looks best. That would probably be 800x600. Standard def CRT televisions are pretty horrible for hooking a PC up to though. If you spend about $500, you can get yourself a nice 720p LCD television an the picture will look 10x better for PC playback, plus you'll have the ability to do 720p HD stuff.
