Video Card Upgrade

Should be decent upgrade. Do you have problems with gaming @ 1920x1200 resolution currently?

I just jumped from a 6870 to GTX 670 last night, and it was decent performance increase. A 7950 is roughly equiv to a GTX 670, and a 6870 (i think) is close to a 560, so thus how I came to my conclusion. Just don't expect some epic improvement.

Just a quick look at Passmark scores gives me this... The 560 Ti Scores 3463 and the 7950 Scores 4432... So it's a 28% increase atleast on that Test... Another Option could also be the 660 Ti, as it's Slightly Faster and same Price... The 660 Ti Scores 4615 (33% Increase)... Find the best deal on either of those and it's a Win... Looking at game benchmarks shows similar results...

OP a HD 7950 boost is a massive upgrade from GTX 560 Ti. HD 7950 boost is on par to slightly faster than GTX 560 Ti SLI. SLI scaling in best cases is 1.8x. But on average across many games its 1.6x

1920 x 1200

GTX 560 Ti - 59
HD 7950 iceq x2 boost - 100
HD 7970 Ghz - 115

HD 7970 is 3 - 6% faster than HD 7950 at same clocks. HD 7950 at 1100 - 1150 mhz matches HD 7970 Ghz.

some good HD 7950 cards are Sapphire HD 7950 boost, HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 boost, Gigabyte HD 7950 OC.

The Increase is NOT as Large as they might think... Look Careful and you will see they are showing the 1GB Version of the Card... Yes, it makes a difference at 1080p with high settings... In Game the main diff you will see with a 7950 is the ability to turn on ALL the Bells and Whistles at 1080p... The Framerate will be higher also but above 60 is useless unless your Monitor supports it... It's a Move from last gen MidRange to current HighEnd as far as GPUs go...

even a 7950 cannot turn on ALL the bells and whistles in every game at 1080 and average 60fps much less not dip below that.

It comes close... Max Payne 3 (pretty new game) at 1080p it (7950) Averages 58 at highest settings... So in MOST Games it'll get it done with max settings...
