I have upgrade options this week.

card must be AGP. no ifs, ands or buts.

My current video card: ATi brand, AiW 9800 pro 128MB with 256-Bit memory.

my options: PNY 7600GS AGP with 512MB Ram $130

ATi x1600 Pro 512MB $100

which will show the best increase in performance.

monitor 19" trinitron.

resolution ran is 1280 x 1024 @ 75 hz

Do not go with the mid range card. I've had that x1600pro and the 9800 AIW PRO.

When I upgraded to the x1600 pro.. It did't excite me at all. Minor preformance boost. :( I did't like it that I sold it and got an x850xt PE and I'm happier with that one.

EDITED: You have rather slow CPU so your probally at your limit with that 9800. You need CPU power to produce the most out of your GPU.

I will be upgrading CPU to 2000+ XP. if that helps at all.

Man....upgrading to a 3 or 4 year old chip...thats a bummer...

The x1600 series is a flop, go for the 7600....preferably the gt.

Given those choices I'd go with the 7600GS.

Also remember just because a card has 512MB of RAM doesn't mean it performs any better. On mid-range and lower cards it's mostly a marketing gimmick to get people to pay more for a card because they just see more RAM and automatically assume it's that much better.

I work with a guy who actually believed his Geforce 5200 w/512MB of RAM was faster than my 7900GT w/256MB of RAM, just because he had DOUBLE the RAM.... ooooooh.

But RAM do help in some case.. Oblivion's LOD for example. But not worth the performance cut that mid range cards have.

Since your 1600+ use DDR Ram.. why not upgrade to an Athlon 3000+ 64 with an $60~ mainboard and stick the PC2100 RAM there.

This board supports BOTH AGP and PCI-E. So upgrade the video card to PCI-E whenever your ready to upgrade. It also have an AM2 that allow you to upgrade your CPU to 940 pim and DDR2 ram later on.

total cost would be ~120 for mainboard and cpu.

Just an suggestion.

Or get a s754 sempy and mobo for about ~$75 and see higher fps with your 9800

for that try to get an x800xt agp, go out with a bang with the best agp card money can buy
