Wife and I are looking at getting smart phones when when have the chance in January to re-up and get them on the cheap but we are totally confused at how Verizon does its plans for these things.

other places like ATT make it fairly simple to understand but Verizon we read their site and just say WTF to each other.

We were looking at the connect plan for 2 lines which says it includes unlimited data, text and picture/video messaging but that doesn't seem to be a true unlimited data as they still have you add with a PDA/Smartphone email option of either Unlimited Data OR Email and web for smartphone.

WTF is the difference? The verizon site doesn't make it very clear.

Can someone that has a smart phone with Verizon explain how their plan is setup?

I think the unlimited data they refer to in that plan is for programs such as mobile web. You are correct in that you still need the smartphone provision...I just have a family share plan and my line has the additional PDA/smartphone charge...hth

is that the 29.99 data plan (email/web) or the 44.99 thing?

I have the 29.99/month unlimited data plan on top of my 10/month voice plan.

The nice thing is that I only pay $24/month because of a 20% corporate discount.

I've talked to a couple other people that were also confused by Verizon's plans.

BigBacon, you have to get the "select" plan (the one with X minutes and unlimited texts), then add the $29.99 data fee per line. The "premium" plans with included unlimited data are for the dumbphones. The $44.95 addon is for corporate plans.

The 29.99 Plan....also see if your employer participates in a discount program with Verizon...I get 18% off of my plan and features such as the data plan...really makes things affordable. All you need is your work email address, google "verizon employee discount" to find the right page.

Actually the extra $15 fee info is incorrect. Its IF your phone is 100% a business phone bought for a business and BY the business. But Verizon staff much like Cops have different policies/laws they think are correct! :p

"So where's the confusion been coming from? Carrier definitions of "business" and normal human definitions of "business" are different. For carriers, it doesn't matter if you're doing business. They only care if you are a business. Are you a rogue operator, a lone wolf, using a personal credit card to activate your single line of service? Then plow right ahead with your Exchange email on the $30 plan - with your Droid or your iPhone."
